Oops! That was the Wrong Twitter Account

Someone working the Twitter account for CBS LA sent out a tweet that we're guessing they were trying to send out on their personal account.

It went out on the CBS LA account instead.

The tweet which was ignorant at best and racist at worst said, "Two of the major over-the-air broadcasters in the U.S. are currently showing soccer. What the hell happened to this country?"

CBSLA deleted the tweet, but not before some people responded.

CBS tweeted back it was an accident:

I'm thinking there just might be a job opening up in the social media department at CBS.

Just saying.....

Comcast Trying to Save Time Warner Merger

Cable giant Comcast is hoping some last minute meetings can keep the company on track to become a monopoly in the broadband sector.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Comcast and Time Warner Cable are slated to sit down for the first time on Wednesday with Justice Department officials to discuss potential remedies in hopes of keeping their $45.2 billion merger on track, according to people familiar with the matter.

The parties haven’t met face-to-face to hash out possible concessions in the more than 14 months when the deal was announced.

Staffers at both the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission remain concerned a combined company would wield too much power in the broadband Internet market and give it unfair competitive leverage against TV channel owners and new market entrants that offer video programming online, said people with knowledge of the review.

One of the options that the FCC is considering is to designate the merger for a hearing, people familiar with the agency’s thinking said. A hearing order would put the merger in the hands of an administrative law judge, a move which would be seen as a sign that the FCC isn’t convinced the deal would be good for the public.

“Mergers are never put to hearing in order to approve them,” said Robert McDowell, a former Republican FCC commissioner. “They are designated for a hearing in order to kill them.”

Combining the two companies would give Comcast 30% of the pay-TV market, but more importantly, it would give them nearly 60% of the broadband service market.

Comcast and TW presented their deal as a straightforward cable merger that doesn’t reduce consumer choice since cable operators don’t overlap geographically, but the increased market share in broadband Internet has been under more intense scrutiny.

And let's be honest, that's where the future lies and Comcast knows it.

Guess we Can Call it Bee Roll

Guess we Can Call it Bee Roll

A news crew with KIRO in Seattle was sent to cover a breaking story that packed quite a sting.

A semi-truck rolled over on the 5 freeway and it was hauling millions of honey bees.

Reporter Jeff Dubois and Photographer Damien Glitch found out the hard way that bees don't like being involved in a traffic accident.

Both Dubois and Glitch were stung, of course the Photog got the worse of it, being stung over 20 times.

The crew tried to move further away for their live report, but just like Al Sharpton the bees followed the camera.

The video is up after the jump.

ESPN Suspends Reporter for Berating Woman

Yesterday, FTVLive showed you the video of ESPN Reporter Britt McHenry berating a woman That works for a towing company.

After the video surfaced, ESPN announced that they had  suspended McHenry for just one week.

McHenry took to Twitter to say she was sorry:

"In an intense and stressful moment, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things. As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake."

The rest of Twitter thought the punishment didn't fit the crime and wasn't to quick to forgive McHenry for her tirade:

Chris Hansen's Mistress Out of Work....again

WFTV has parted ways with Reporter Kristyn Caddell, although the station is not saying much about it.

"Kristyn does not work here any longer," news director Matt Parcell said Thursday. "That's all I'm going to say."

He wouldn't say when her last day was, but he acknowledged that her bio has been removed from the station's website.

Caddell has not seem to have much luck when it comes to keeping a job. Along with Orlando, Caddell has worked at stations in stations in West Palm Beach, Seattle and Las Vegas.

It was while working in West Palm Beach that Caddell made headlines when the National Enquirer in 2011 revealed that she was having an affair with the married Chris Hansen of "Dateline NBC" and "To Catch a Predator" fame.

In a frank letter to the National Enquirer, Caddell said that Hansen had been lying to her and his wife.

As FTVLive told you, Hansen is now trying to bring back his "To Catch a Predator" segments to the Internet and has launched a fundraising page on KickStarter.

Caddell lasted only 4 months in Las Vegas before she was out of a job and blaming Hansen for ruining her career.

She made it just over a year at WFTV. When she was hired the station said they were more "interested in reporter's future, not her past."

Now it appears they are not interested in her future, either.

Ummmmm ok?

Eric Harryman will be the new morning Anchor, coming from KTXL in Sacramento.

"We’re making some exciting adjustments among our talented team of journalists to better serve our viewers," said Larry Olevitch, NBC 6 President and General Manager. "Jawan has played a pivotal role in rallying our morning team and our morning audience and I am confident he will bring that presence and effectiveness to our evening team. Adam’s passion for sports is unmatched and he has a knack for uncovering unique local stories, from up-and-coming athletes to the pros. Eric is a seasoned professional and has a dynamic personality that complements our strong morning team. I can't wait to introduce our new lineup to our local viewers."

Network Fires Large Amount of News Photographers

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation must feel like you can do TV news without moving pictures.

The CBS eliminated another 241 positions, many of the cuts were videographers.

The CBC informed employees yesterday that their positions were abolished, France Belisle, director of communications and public relations, confirmed.

This latest round of job cuts brings the total tally to 1,400 over the last year.

“This is a major change in the broadcaster’s operations,” Marc-Philippe Laurin, CBC Branch President at Canadian Media Guild, said in a statement. It’s not clear what CBC’s plan for newsgathering is, and we are very worried about workload impacts for all who will survive this round. In the last year, CBC has cut 17 per cent of its total workforce.”

Belisle said that the rearrangement of positions will aid in the CBC’s transition to a more mobile-focused newsroom.

“These adjustments, while always difficult, testify to our desire to grow in the area where our audience is going — mobile.”

The job cuts were the result of a mass layoff announcement in late March.

More cuts are expected.

Dr. Quack

Screen Shot 2015-04-17 at 5.46.03 AM.png

Dr. Oz might have a lot of fans that watch him on TV, but his follow Doctors a not among them.

A group of doctors at Columbia University, in a lacerating letter to his boss, called for the TV doctor’s dismissal from the prestigious post of vice chairman of Columbia University’s department of surgery.

“He’s a quack and a fake and a charlatan,” said Dr. Henry Miller of Stanford, the first person to sign the poison-pen letter.

“I think I know the motivation at Columbia,” he continued. “They’re star-struck, and like having on their faculty the best-known doctor in the country. But the fact is that his advice endangers patients, and this doesn’t seem to faze them. Whether they’re hoping Oprah will come and endow a center for homeopathic medicine, I don't know.”

The one-page letter was also signed by Dr. Gilbert Ross, executive director of the American Counsel on Science and Health.

“We find it a shame that he has fled from the ethical and responsible practice of medicine to exploit his television popularity,” said the Manhattan-based doctor.

He ripped into the Harvard-educated Dr. Mehmet Oz for the “various quack propositions that he is promulgating on his TV show — magical mystery cures.”

Calls to a spokesman for Oz for a response were not returned Thursday.

ESPN Reporter Caught on Video Acting Like an Asshole

A video has surfaced of ESPN reporter Britt McHenry dressing down a parking lot attendant, making fun of the woman’s features, and using the “do you know who I am?” argument.

It’s unclear what exactly made the woman who looks like McHenry so mad, but she is furious. At one point, she looks directly at the security camera. Some select quotes:

“I’m in the news sweetheart, I will fucking sue this place.”

“So I could be a college dropout and do the same thing?”

“I’m on television and you’re in a fucking trailer, honey.”

“Lose some weight, baby girl.”

Popular LA Anchor Leaving TV News

Another longtime Anchor is sticking a fork in her TV career.

KCAL/KCBS news anchor Sylvia Lopez today announced her plans to leave the stations and pursue a career in the public health field. Lopez, who currently anchors KCAL’s weekday 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. newscasts, will conclude her 30-year career in Los Angeles television news by anchoring her final newscasts on Friday, April 24.

“I’ve been amazingly fortunate to cover the news for more than three decades, and to do it for 28 of those years at KCAL and KCBS, among people who are like my family,” Lopez said. “It’s been a privilege to report on so many stories that have impacted people right here in Southern California where I grew up.”

Lopez has been admitted into the Master of Public Health program at California State University, Northridge. She will enter the program as a full-time graduate student this fall.

“I’ve always had a passion for health issues, probably because I grew up helping my dad in his dental practice. Now, after three decades of shedding light on them as a journalist, I’m excited to take the next step by trying to address these issues in a hands-on role, especially those that affect children and families.”

“Sylvia Lopez is a Southern California TV news treasure,” said Steve Mauldin, President and General Manager, CBS 2 and KCAL 9. “Her professionalism and heart have set a shining example for what a newscaster should be.”

“We wish she was staying with us, but certainly understand her strong desire to affect meaningful change in the healthcare field. We look forward to celebrating her remarkable career at CBS 2 and KCAL 9 and giving her the sendoff she deserves later this month.”

Look Who Was Spotted Interviewing in Atlanta

Sources tell FTVLive that former WCBS Anchor Rob Morrison was spotted talking to WGCL News Director Larry Perret.

Word is that Morrison is auditioning for an Anchor job at the station.

Morrison was dumped by WCBS after he was arrested for choking his wife, CBS MoneyWatch Anchor Ashley Morrison.

Morrison pleaded guilty on second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct and agreed to participate in a Family Violence Education Program. He denied choking his wife.

Morrison was arrested again after allegedly violating a protective order and calling his estranged wife more than 100 times over a holiday weekend.

Ashley left CBS and is now working at WSVN in Miami.

It appears that Rob is looking to get closer to Ashley and the kids and is hoping to land a gig in Atlanta.

Does Anyone at MSNBC Pay Their Taxes?

Melissa-Harris-Perry-1-e1374440430327.jpg

This morning, FTVLive told you how MSNBC host Al Sharpton continues to thumb his nose at Uncle Sam when it comes to paying his taxes.

But, he's not the only MSNBC staffer to owe the IRS.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports that MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry and her husband James Perry owe the Internal Revenue Service$70,000 in delinquent taxes.

A notice filed this month in the Forsyth County Hall of Justice indicates the IRS has placed a lien on the Perrys.

The paper writes that in an email Wednesday, Harris-Perry said she was unaware of the tax lien but knew about the debt. She said she and her husband paid $21,721 of the debt when they filed their taxes Wednesday. The remaining debt, $48,581, covers a tax period ending Dec. 31, 2013, according to the notice.

Harris-Perry said she and her husband had been working to pay off the debt but had to deal with a series of personal crises that caused the couple to pay off the debt a lot slower than expected.

“We were aware that we would continue to need to work to pay off the 2013 debt,” she said in the email.

MSNBC appears to have no problem with their talent being deadbeats.

Lean Forward.

Miami Reporter Leaving for Beirut

Screen Shot 2015-04-16 at 1.49.33 PM.png

WSVN Reporter Kevin Ozebek is leaving the station to work for a small Arab network based in Beirut.

Ozebek's new gig will be as a Lebanon correspondent.

I don't know about you, but if I left South Florida, Beirut would not be at the top of the list as my next stop.

But, Ozebek seems to love the place. One of his friends tells Gossip Extra the guy is so into Beirut that he vacations there. As a matter of fact, Ozebek was in Beirut in 2012 that he almost got caught in a car bomb explosion.

Sounds like a great vacation.

He has been with the Miami station since 2010.
