Demoted in the Burgh

“I have been reassign to weekend nights…” that’s how WTAE Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla told viewers on his Facebook page that he had been demoted at the Hearst station.

Verszyla had been doing the Noon and 4PM weather. Those duties will now be done by Brian Hutton Jr.

“Brian has been a steady voice for our viewers during severe weather, sharing critical updates with expertise and compassion,” WTAE news director Baylor Long said. “His commitment to delivering clear, impactful weather information through innovative forecasting has truly set him apart. We are confident his new role will allow him to connect with even more of Western Pennsylvania on TV and digital platforms.”

As for Verszyla, it’s clearly a demotion, but it’s better than the last time. Verszyla had worked across the street at KDKA for over two decades, until they let him go back in 2018.

He joined WTAE in 2020.

The change starts September 1st.
