The 800 Pound Gorilla in Philly

When it comes to TV news ratings in the Philly market, it is WPVI and then everyone else.

Of course, the competition is not very good.

Two years ago, FTVLive told you that CBS’s KYW was dropping the “Eyewitness News” branding at the station.

In that story from April 13, 2023, while talking about KYW rebranding their news, FTVLive wrote:

“It will have no impact in the ratings, money will be spent to make all the changes and re-logo the merch and business cards, but nothing will change.

WPVI will remain No. 1 and KYW will continue to be an also-ran.

Sorry, that’s just the truth.”

And, just like we said, it is the truth.

In the month of March, WPVI won 234 out of 234 newscasts, including weekends with adults 18+ for a 100% winning percentage.

At 6PM, WPVI’s newscast had a 152% advantage over the second place station.

It is nothing but total domination for the ABC O&O.
