Politics (and Journalism) Makes Strange Bedfellows
/You have likely heard the phrase that “politics makes strange bedfellows” and I guess the same could be said for politics and journalism.
Let’s look at an example of that.
Over at Scripps, Christina Hartman is head of news standards overseeing editorial standards as a steward of the reputation and editorial independence of the Scripps Networks division's news brands.
According to the company, her responsibilities include actively ensuring a culture of inclusivity that supports civil, open exchange of ideas — leading to strong editorial coverage of the diversity of the human experience.
Christina Hartman is married to Dan Hartman. Dan is a top adviser to controversial Republican U.S. Senator Josh Hawley?
Hartman has even been subpoenaed to testify about allegations of violating Missouri’s sunshine laws while working for Hawley.
Scripps’ company slogan is “Give light and the people will find their way.” This while the company’s head of standards husband works for a person who seems like he’d be fine with democracy dying in the dark.
Like we said, strange bedfellows.
