Bumped Up in Birmingham

WIAT announced that they are bumping up Reporter Jack Royer to the evening anchor job.

Royer was hired by the Nexstar station while still in school at the University of Alabama as a Reporter at the station's Tuscaloosa bureau in 2017.

The days of paying your dues in tiny markets are long gone and with less than a year on the job, Royer is being bumped up to main Anchor in a Top 40 market with little experience.

"Jack is a true journalist. He has the highest ethics and standards when it comes to reporting local news affecting our viewers. Because Jack grew up here, he is committed to being part of the community," said News Director, Rob Martin.

Jack's father is Mike Royer, who also worked as a meteorologist and news anchor in the Birmingham market.

Jack will Anchor alongside Sherri Jackson, who’s been anchoring and reporting for nearly 30 years. In other words, longer than Jack has been alive.

"Birmingham is my home. I love this community and the people here," Royer said. "I look forward to serving the community that I grew up in both on and off air."

Some would argue that he is still growing up.

Just saying...
