Officer Shot, Everyone Smile (Updated)

Update: FTVLive has posted countless stories of Reporters and or Anchors smiling at a shooting, crime scene or disaster. It seems that no matter how much we say don't do it, people still do.

This morning we posted another such story from WJXT Reporter Erik Avanier (see below). What makes this story refreshing and different from many of the rest, is Avanier admitted he made a mistake. Too often the giant egos of TV people will not let them say "hey I screwed up."

Avanier manned up and did exactly that. Every one of us makes stupid mistakes, not many will admit to it.

Avanier did and for that, we give him props. This should be a lesson to others that screw up, step up admit it, learn from it and move on.

Eric Avaier did just that.

Here is the apology he posted to his Facebook Page:

Original story:

No matter how often you try to tell TV people, they just can't seem to get it through their heads. Maybe their ego is blocking the way?

Some sad news from Jacksonville, as an Agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, was carrying his groceries out of a Publix supermarket and a gunman came up and shot him multiple times.

The gunman turned out to be an 18-year-old who then killed himself.

WJXT Reporter Erik Avanier posted this smiling selfie with WJXT Reporter Corley Peel.

When Avanier was called out for posting the smiling selfie he then dug the hole that much deeper.

So, Agent is shot, the kid that shot him kills himself and you're just "happy to get some breaking news."?
