FTVLive EXCLUSIVE: Camerota to Replace Bolduan on CNN's New Day

Back on October 14, 2013, FTVLive reported that CNN New Day Anchor Chris Cuomo told CNN President Jeff Zucker that he thinks he needs a new co-anchor.

Cuomo was not a fan of his co-Anchor Kate Bolduan almost from the get go and wanted her to be replaced.

Bolduan never was Zucker's first choice as the morning Anchor, he first wanted to go with Erin Burnett. But, as FTVLive FIRST told you that deal died before it ever happened, when Burnett pulled out her contract that stated she was to Anchor only in prime time.

Almost a year ago on January 28th, FTVLive reported that Zucker was exploring moving Bolduan off of New Day and was looking for a replacement.

Then months before it ever happened, FTVLive FIRST reported that former Fox News Anchor Alisyn Camerota was going to CNN.

Now, FTVLive reports FIRST and EXCLUSIVELY that Camerota will be replacing Kate Bolduan early in the new year. Camerota has been filing in on New Day since Bolduan left on maternity leave and she is now getting the job full time.

As FTVLive reported, Zucker wanted Robin Meade to move over from HLN and take the New Day job, but Meade refused to leave Atlanta and dug in her heels. Zucker has now decided to go with Camerota to sit alongside Cuomo.

In Early 2015, the show will use Cuomo, Camerota and news reader Michaela Pereira as the main Anchors of New Day. The decision has been made and CNN was expected to announce the change just after the New Year. No word now that FTVLive has broken the story if that announcement will be moved up.

As for Bolduan? Sources tell FTVLive that it is likely that she will be given her own show later in the day, but the show and the time slot are still being decided.

As you can see from our reporting on the New Day saga, FTVLive has been FIRST and correct with all our reporting. We can tell you that we are dead on on this one as well. Alisyn Camerota is taking over for Kate Bolduan early next year.

Remember where you read it FIRST!

Weatherman That Was Shot Speaks Out for the First Time

KCEN (Waco) Meteorologist Patrick Crawford appeared in public for the first time since he was gunned down last week, thanking supporters and saying that he still has no idea who ambushed him outside of the TV station where he works.

"There was no interaction whatsoever," he said, contradicting earlier reports that Crawford exchanged words with the gunman before the shooting.

"He started shooting me as I was leaving the parking lot. There was no interaction and I did not know him."

Crawford, who wore a blue Superman T-shirt and sat in a wheelchair at today's press conference, said he is "slowly getting better."

"It's been a long process, a lot of pain," he said.

Crawford, whose wife is a meteorologist at the same station, asked for privacy for his family.

Dr. Matthew Davis, trauma director at Baylor Scott & White Hospital, said he expects Crawford to be home in time for the holidays.

Here is his very brief press conference he held at the hospital:

KCEN Meteorologist Patrick Crawford spoke briefly from a Texas hospital on Monday, thanking doctors for their help. Crawford was shot while in the parking lot of KCEN last Wednesday but is expected to make a full recovery.

Gannett to Drop CNN Newsource?

There is no official word out, but rumors are swirling that Gannett is dumping CNN Newsource starting early next year.

Gannett hasn't confirmed the news, but staffers at a number of Gannett properties have been told that CNN is going way next year.

Next to the FOX O&O's this will be one of the biggest groups to dump CNN.

It would have a big impact on CNN's bottom line.

Stay tuned...

CNN Zucker's End of the Year Email

CNN boss Jeff Zucker sent out his end of the year email before taking off on Holiday vacation.

Despite a number of layoffs, botched coverage on air mistakes and Don Lemon, Zucker painted a rosy picture of 2014 at CNN. As one staff said to FTVLive, "Jeff has a wonderful career ahead of him in fiction writing when this CNN thing goes south."

Here is Zucker's email:

As 2014 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the year.

This has been a terrific year for the entire CNN worldwide organization, though certainly not without its challenges. Still, we are ending 2014 in our best shape in many years. Journalistically. Competitively. Financially.

As always, it is our journalism that has defined the year. Our coverage in Ferguson, Ukraine, Kobani, North Korea, Mt. Sinjar in Iraq, Caracas, Liberia where we were first on the Ebola crisis, Nigeria for the story of the missing school girls before anyone else, and in so many other places, again showed that CNN’s worldwide newsgathering resources and people are unmatched. Think about Phil Black’s dramatic first-on-the-scene reporting from the crash of MH17, Anderson Cooper’s newsmaking interviews with Donald Sterling and Magic Johnson and Drew Griffin’s expose of the scandal at the Veterans Administration that led to the resignation of the VA Secretary. Just a few examples of the powerful reporting that made a difference this year.

I am often asked what makes me proudest about working at CNN. It is our journalism. And the world relies on it, every day.

Every division played a role in making this a year to remember:

• CNN US had a terrific year with both its news programs and original series. CNN ends the year solidly in second place. That’s our best competitive position in prime time since 2008 and best in total day since 2011. CNN has beaten MSNBC in prime time and total day for five straight months, the longest winning streak over MSNBC in six years. On the original series side, a strategy that was born in 2013 flourished in 2014. CNN found success in new series from John Walsh, Mike Rowe and Lisa Ling to go with its established hits from Anthony Bourdain and Morgan Spurlock. All of that led Ad Age to recently call CNN the “Hottest News Network.”

• On the international side, CNNI was named News Channel of the Year for the second year in a row by the Royal Television Society and “Cable & Satellite Channel of the Year” at the Asian Television Awards, also for the second year in a row. Those honors, on both sides of the world, and the fact that CNN is the undisputed #1 international news brand, in television and digital, leaves CNN in the strongest position of anyone globally. And the work of CNN en Espanol this year was superb, and resulted in its best year ever.

• This was the most successful year ever for CNN Digital, by just about every measure. We launched one of the industry’s most important innovations in years with CNNGo. We took full ownership of CNNMoney, where our video traffic is now up 480% over last year, and reimagined CNN Politics. CNN.com had many months where we were #1 in page views, video and visits. Video exploded, with more than two billion videos watched, and @cnnbrk moved past 20 million followers, increasing our lead as the most followed (and fanned) news organization in the world. All of this comes as we are about to launch a brand new CNN.com in two weeks.

• And at HLN, in the face of questions about its fate, the network pulled together and identified a new strategy that will launch in earnest in the weeks ahead. Even with the uncertainty, HLN beat MSNBC for the last six straight months in total day demos, its longest such streak in more than nine years.

I want to say congratulations and thank you to each of you, across the company and around the globe, for making this all happen. Any organization is only as good as its people. And this year you proved just how strong you are.

It would be folly to ignore the fact that this success also came at a time of real change for us. As we all know, some talented people have left the organization, many of them our longtime friends and colleagues. That has been tough. And it is ok to say so.

I look forward to getting together with each of you at our annual global town hall, on January 14, where we will look ahead and lay out our goals for 2015. Until then, please accept both my thanks and congratulations on a terrific 2014. I hope that the coming days will allow each of you to reflect on your own successes, both professionally and personally. No matter where you are or what you are celebrating, I want to wish a Happy Holidays to each of you and your loved ones.

Jeff

Another One Out the Door at CBS Miami

It looks like the revolving door at WFOR in Miami is continuing to spin. Reporter Summer Knowles sent out an internal memo to her co-workers telling them she is leaving for a Anchor/Reporter job in another market.

Insiders say that Knowles was a solid Reporter who joined the station in June 2012. Insiders tell FTVLive that station management "screwed her over" and instead of sitting around complaining, she went out and got another job.

Word is that more on air staff are headed for the exits early next year.

Here is her email she sent to the staff, obtained by FTVLive:

Huh?! Station says Sorry and then Deletes the Apology

An Anchor at WXMI (Grand Rapids) broke the cardinal rule of acting if the mic is always on.

The Anchor blurted out an inappropriate word during Sunday evening's 11 p.m. news. But, it appears that most viewers didn't hear the profanity on air, that didn't stop News Director Brooks Blanton from posting an apology on Facebook, that went over like a lead balloon.

Blanton posted this on Facebook:

During our 11 p.m. news on Sunday night, one of our staff members used an inappropriate word which inadvertently was broadcast over the air. The staff member did not realize her microphone was open. However, we have a "no tolerance" policy when it comes to the use of offensive language on any of our media platforms. We sincerely apologize to our viewers and are taking corrective action to make sure this does not happen again.

Blanton refused to say what the word that the anchor used, but his apology seemed to do more harm than good and many people came to the Anchor's defense:

Marc Oppenheimer, of Muskegon: "Mistakes happen. A simply apology would have sufficed. Advertising that you intend to discipline an employee is extremely unprofessional however. I am more offended you decided to publicize your decision making and intent to discipline than I am by anything you said."

Chris Smith has drawn more than 300 "likes" for posting, "I will stop watching FOX 17 if she is fired. Everyone makes mistakes."

The station has not commented on Facebook since the original post. However, Blanton clarified that he did not mean to imply anyone would be disciplined for the mistake.

"We've taken corrective action to make sure it doesn't happen again," he told MLive. "It was a mistake and that doesn't mean that someone is being fired or disciplined, as people have assumed on Facebook.

"We have apologized to our viewers and have already moved on from this issue to cover the news of the day," Blanton said.

Oh....and Blanton deleted the original post on Facebook.

Huh?!

Dumped Indy Station Crawls to the CW

WISH in Indianapolis was a hearty CBS affiliate, but is losing that affiliation at the end of the year. The station announced it will now become a lowly CW affiliate in the new year.

That's kind of like having a nice shinny new Corvette and then moving to a beat up old Ford Pinto.

“We welcome the CW network to our new prime time,” said WISH GM Les Vann. “This original and dynamic line-up of programming will drive new audiences to WISH-TV and our newscasts, and deliver key demographics to our advertisers.”

Reportedly he said that statement with a straight face but everyone knows that it is just lipstick on a pig.

Anchor Charged with Scam Seeks Free Lawyer

Former Philly Sports Anchor Don Tollefson is charged with scamming a number of people out of thousands of dollars. He plead guilty

Yesterday, Tollefson called reporters to a corner near his apartment, he said, to offer a more in-depth explanation for his about-face in a Bucks County courtroom last week.

When Reporters got there, Tollefson did not have much to say about his case, other than he is now looking for a lawyer that will defend him for free and that he had some new evidence in the case. He refused to say what that evidence was.

Instead, the former Sports Anchor holding a bible in one hand spoke for 20 minutes plus praising a scientific journal on alcoholism, first responders for their work with overdoses, and a local church for helping him find strength.

Tollefson also described then what he said were a series of other life changes since he decided to plead guilty, including a rededication to Christian faith. He said he had sought spiritual counseling and has "prayed considerably on this matter."

Speaking to reporters on Monday, he said he planned to sell his sports and civil rights movement-era memorabilia to raise money for his alleged victims.

"I have every intention of paying back everyone who has a legitimate claim against me," he said.

So in other words, his press conference was really just a waste of time.

But hey, it's a Holiday week, so it's not like there was any real news to cover.

Back in the TV News Game

She's headed back into the TV News game after a year away.

Anchor/Reporter Adela Uchida has had a somewhat bumpy ride since her departure from KTRK (Houston) in January, but things are looking up for the veteran anchor and reporter.

On her personal Facebook page, she announced her latest TV news job:

"I am pleased to announce I am joining the staff of KEYE in Austin as anchor/reporter on January 5th, 2015," she wrote.

After her six years with KTRK News, Uchida was hired as a reporter at an all news radio station in town that went belly up. She is now headed back into the much more stable field of TV news.

Yeah right.

From TV News to Political Flack

Reporter Richard Piatt joined KSL (Salt Lake) in 1998, now he's leaving TV news and heading to Washington.

No he has not been elected to Congress, but he will be a congressional mouthpiece.

Congresswoman-elect Mia Love announced she has hired Piatt, as her communications director.

“I am thrilled to have someone with Richard’s experience on my staff,” Love said in a statement. “I am confident he will assist me in my efforts to represent the people of the 4th District, and the state of Utah in my desire to bring a Utah perspective to the important issues in Washington.”

“I’m looking forward to being on the other side of the business of politics,” Piatt said. “I’m excited to apply the skills I learned in broadcasting in a different aspect.”

Sounds boring as hell...but hey...whatever floats your boat.

Today Show Dumps Actress Interview After She Wouldn't Talk About Sony Hack

Word is that Actress Amy Adams Today Show interview was scrapped when she refused to answer questions about the Sony Hacking scandal.

The actress was embroiled in the Sony scare when it was revealed she was paid less than her "American Hustle: co-stars in the movie.

Page Six says that Adams, who was booked on yesterday's “Today” Monday to promote the movie "Big Eyes" was in the show’s green room when she was told she would be asked to comment on the Sony hack.

A source said, “Amy said she didn’t want to contribute to the media coverage of it . . . then she was abruptly told that her interview with ‘Today’ was canceled. She was shocked and upset.”

The source added that Cooper had appeared on “Today” for his new movie "American Sniper" but was not asked about Sony.

But another source insists five-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Adams “was angry and acting belligerent, she was yelling at ‘Today’ producers, and reduced a young female staffer to tears.”

The source added, “Part of the episode was caught on tape.”

The situation prompted numerous calls Monday between Harvey Weinstein, who is distributing “Big Eyes,” and “Today” exec Don Nash.

A Today rep declined to comment.

A TWC rep said, “We asked for tapes, NBC eyewitnesses who were there, NBC refused to give any information, we would happily finance an internal investigation to get to the bottom of this because we have no doubt Amy handled herself as a professional.”

An NBC rep said, “As a news program, the ‘Today’ show doesn’t allow guests to put restrictions on interviews. In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview.”

Sinclair Station Called Out for Misleading Story

There's an old joke in TV news that says, "Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story."

That seems to be exactly how WBFF in Baltimore played it in a recent story and now more than a few people are crying foul.

Mediaite writes that three times over the last 24 hours, Baltimore Fox affiliate WBFF has played a misleadingly edited clip from last week’s National “Justice for All” March in Washington, D.C. to make it sound like protesters were calling on people to “kill a cop.”

“At this rally in Washington, D.C. participants chanted, ‘We won’t stop, we can’t stop, so kill a cop,’” WBFF’s Melinda Roeder said during a Sunday night report about the murder of two police officers in New York City, before playing a truncated version of a protest video from C-SPAN. “The anti-police sentiment reached a turning point this weekend in New York when two officers were gunned down in cold blood.”

Watch the edited version below, via WBFF:

Three times over the last 24 hours, Baltimore Fox affiliate WBFF has played a misleadingly edited clip from last week's National "Justice for All" March in Washington, D.C. to make it sound like protesters were calling on people to "kill a cop." "At this rally in Washington, D.C.

The chat did not say what the station said it did. The chant was:We won’t stop.
We can’t stop.
‘Til killer cops.
Are in cell blocks.

The woman that lead that chant in the video is steaming made at the Baltimore station. She posted this to social media:

Like we said, never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Team—

I’m thrilled to announce that Kendis Gibson has joined ABC News as a correspondent.

A talented journalist with wide-ranging experience, Kendis is a very welcome addition to our ABC News family. He comes to us from our powerhouse affiliate WJLA in Washington DC, where he was a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter. Since joining WJLA in 2011, he has covered some of the biggest stories to hit the nation’s capital, including anchoring hours of live coverage during Hurricane Sandy, the Capitol Hill police pursuit and shooting, and reporting on the Navy Yard massacre in 2013.

Prior to joining WJLA, Kendis worked as a correspondent with CBS Newspath, where he covered the shooting spree in Tucson and many other major news events. He also worked as an anchor at KSWB in San Diego, and has hosted shows for HGTV and covered red carpet events across the world as an entertainment reporter and anchor with CNN.

A native of Belize, where he grew up without a television, Kendis moved to the U.S. when he was 11-years-old. The youngest of seven boys, his family has also taught him a thing or two about how to work as a team.

Kendis will spend the next several months in New York before moving full time to the Washington bureau.

Please join me in welcoming Kendis to ABC News.
