The Ice Desk Lives On

The ice desk started last winter and it is showing no signs of letting up.

Even with temps over 100 degrees it isn't stopping KPNX in Phoenix from b̶e̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶ ̶d̶e̶a̶d̶ ̶h̶o̶r̶s̶e̶ ̶ice desk.

The station says on a day like today, we make sure everyone keeps hydrated and as cool as possible while doing so.

So they made an ice desk and encouraged viewers to tune in and watch it melt live on the newscast.

Who says local TV news is useless?

Ohio Weather Anchor Tweets Topless Photo

An Ohio Weather Anchor deleted a topless photo that was posted on Twitter.

Before you get too excited, the Anchor was a dude.

WEWS Chief Meteorologist Mark Johnson tweeted the picture and then changed his story a couple of times as to why?

He deleted the picture and all the excuses and now claims it was his wife's fault.

Screen Shot 2014-07-24 at 1.48.15 PM.png

Just minutes after he posted the shirtless pic, he deleted it and then posted this tweet to make it look like his friend posted the photo, using his phone.

He then deleted that tweet and tried to pass the blame to his wife.

Then that and any other tweets involving the shirtless selfie have been deleted.

No word if he will posted a photo of himself meeting with the WEWS News Director.

Stay tuned...

Matt Lauer's Former Co-Host Dies from Alcohol Abuse

WJAR former PM magazine host Sheila Martines Pina was found dead and the coroner says chronic alcohol abuse, was to blame.

Pina, who hosted the show with now Today Show Anchor Matt Lauer, was found dead Feb. 5 in her South Dartmouth home, after a family member called police about 9 a.m.

The state medical examiner's office also said the manner of death for the 58-year-old Martines Pina was ruled to be natural causes.

For many years, she fought a highly publicized battle against alcoholism and served jail time for drunken driving.

Wasting the Viewer's Time in Denver

Say you got up this morning in Denver and wanted to know what the forecast was going to be for the day?

Now, say you tuned on KDVR's "Good Morning Colorado" to get the forecast. Instead you got Dog the Bounty Hunter doing the weather forecast.

I love that TV stations claim how important weather coverage is and yet they let these idiots on to do the weather.

How about Dog the Breaking News Anchor?

I really doubt, KDVR would let Dog read the story about a little boy kidnapped, or the 3 people murdered.

So why let the guy do the weather?

Just asking....

Let's go to the video:

Louisville Anchor Cutting Back

Longtime WDRB (Louisville) Anchor  Elizabeth Woolsey informed viewers that she is leaving the 10PM newscast.

Woolsey writes on the station's website "I love my job, but also cherish the time with my family and realize I will never get this time back with them as my sons grow up."

She says it's time be scales back her hours, allowing her to spend evenings with her family.

"My last night anchoring WDRB News at 10 will be Wednesday, July 30th. I will be starting my new schedule on Monday, August 4th and will continue to anchor WDRB News at 4," she writes.

"It's a big change, but one I feel will be rewarding!"

Buffalo News Director Bounced

He should have never gotten the job in the first place and now WIVB News Director  Joe Schlaerth has been pink slipped from the station.

Schlaerth was sacked this morning and insiders say the newsroom is already a much happier place because of it.

The Buffalo News says that indeed, it was more surprising that he lasted this long running the news department of the LIN station.

About a year ago when Rene LaSpina was named as Channel 4's new general manager, she apparently decided to give Schlaerth a year to illustrate he should stay on the job and possibly improve his management skills and the station's ratings.

LaSpina could not be immediately reached for comment. Word is she told the staff that Schlaerth had been "removed" rather than use the word fired.

In an attempt to contact Schlaerth in the news department, I was told that he no longer works at the station.

According to sources, the new interim news director is Peter Jacobus, who most recently worked as a news director in Colorado Springs.

Larry Mendte to WABC Radio

Unknown.jpeg

Larry Mendte is like a cockroach, you can try and kill him, but he keeps coming back.

The convicted felon and former Philly Anchor is returning to the air, but this time it's on the radio. Mendte is joining the WABC, where he will host a weekly 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm program on Sundays beginning July 27.

The station notes that Mendte is “a familiar voice to the NewYork metro area, having most recently been a contributor to WPIX's nightly newscast producing commentaries.

Mendte also hosts a television news and public affairs show for Me TV in Philadelphia.  The show will soon air in New York on Me TV.

Bugging the Anchor

Screen Shot 2014-07-23 at 8.27.24 AM.png

Taking Journalism to new heights, WBNS (Columbus) Morning Anchor Jeff Hogan and Weatherman Mike Davis ate fried bugs on air this morning.

The Ohio State Fair is going on and features different foods including fried larva in creme cheese.

Both Anchors ate on air without hesitation and Hogan pigged out by going back for seconds.

While they were chomping down on the bugs, Edward R. Murrow flipped over one more time.

OKC station deserves the Bad Rap

KSBI in Oklahoma City says they are sorry for their racism attitude.

After some flack, the station now says said it made a mistake when it booted the hip hop artist off its Monday "Oklahoma Live!" morning show after producers found out he was a rapper.

Oklahoma City-based performer Jabee Williams, who is black, said on Tuesday the move by TV station KSBI may have been racially motivated.

Reuters reports that KSBI President CEO Vince Orza, a former Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate, said his station typically does not invite rap or heavy metal artists for its morning show but it should have let Williams perform, especially since he has also been on the show twice.

"He is a professional, who showed up on time, ready to entertain our audience as he has in the past. I wanted him to hear directly from me that he is welcome to perform on 'Oklahoma Live!' and KSBI. I apologized to him, and he very graciously thanked me for calling," Orza said in a statement on Monday night.

Williams said he was told to leave the set by the show's executive producer who told the rapper he was not the type of artist they wanted put on the air.

"We showed up when we were supposed to and they told us we couldn't play after they found out I was a black rapper," he said.

"I'm not angry about not playing. I'm angry about the way we were talked to, the way we were treated. We didn't do anything wrong," he said.

No word if the EP has been fired...but he damn well should be.

Blurring the Line in Sacramento

KTXL in Sacramento seems to taking the line of ethical journalism and doing their best to obliterate it.

The station's Morning Anchors Paul Robbins and Bethany Crouch have been making appearances on screen during the morning show's commercial breaks....and NOT in station promo material.

Crouch appears in multiple spots for Sacramento Infiniti (local car dealer) that air on Fox 40's  morning show and throughout the day.

Robbins has appeared in "Good feet" commercials for at least a year now, but up until a couple months ago it was just his voice. Lately, he's been appearing on screen in commercials both during his show and throughout the day.

Also, he's appeared to have entered into an endorsement agreement with JR Putman heating and air.

It's unknown whether these commercials were brokered by the anchors themselves, or the sales team at KTXL.

Either way, it appears lines have been b̶l̶u̶r̶r̶e̶d̶ wiped out completely.

Justice Department OK's Sinclair/Allbritton Deal

It's just about a done deal.

On Tuesday, the Justice Department signal that it has no antitrust issues with Sinclair's purchase of Allbritton stations.

Now it moves over to the FCC and although the clock still running, it is expected that the FCC will gives its approval before the July 27 date after which either company could back out of the sale.

Sinclair restructured the deal to make it more palatable to an FCC now focused on sharing arrangements with associated financial elements.

Sinclair announced July 29, 2013, that it had struck a deal for Allbritton's TV stations, including WJLA Washington, and its NewsChannel 8 regional cable news net. At the time, the deal was expected to close by the fourth quarter of that year, but the FCC under Chairman Tom Wheeler has been going over deals involving sharing arrangements with a fine-tooth-comb and signaled they would take extra time to vet.

Report: NBC to Dump David Gregory from Meet the Press

Has NBC News finally comes to their senses and have decided to pull the rip cord on David Gregory?

Page Six says that Gregory’s time is nearly up at “Meet the Press,” and he could be replaced as moderator of the nation’s longest-running TV show soon after the November midterm elections.

While NBC News President Deborah Turness has publicly supported the embattled Gregory, there are serious concerns about the losing battle to turn around the show’s sinking ratings.

Viewership is down a whopping 43 percent compared to when Gregory ascended to the moderator’s chair in December 2008, after the death of Tim Russert. The show finished in third place behind CBS’s “Face the Nation” and ABC’s “This Week” in the second quarter of 2014.

An NBC source said, “The discussion is whether to make a change before or after the midterm elections. Just after the midterms would give the new moderator time to settle in.”

According to insiders, NBC political director and chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd is the rightful heir to Gregory, but he has not been officially offered the job.

“We heard the same false rumors and suggest you take them with a grain of salt, as we did,” an NBC Spokesperson responding to the report.

Fox News Anchor Admits Obama Can't Win on FNC

It's not like anyone that watches Fox News didn't know this already, but give Greg Gutfeld credit for admitting it straight out.

UPI reports that while discussing President Obama's upcoming itinerary of fundraising and entertainment appearances, Gutfeld admitted the president would not receive any positive credit on the traditionally conservative network.

"Do you think it's a bit of an issue that we're talking about the fact that he's not doing Jimmy Kimmel instead of all these international crises," asked co-host of The Five Andrea Tantaros.

Tantaros was alluding to President Obama's recent cancellation of a scheduled Jimmy Kimmel appearance, something the president had been criticized for not canceling sooner in light of increasingly volatile international events.

"Let's be honest here, If he had done Jimmy Kimmel we would have made fun of him," admitted co-host Greg Gutfeld.

"Now he's not doing Jimmy Kimmel and we're still making fun of him. So, he can't win with us."

Not wanting to let his fellow co-host down, Eric Bolling added his assessment that "The president's checked out. He's a lame duck who's completely lame."

Hey, at least FNC is consistent with their bashing of the President.
