Bumped Up to Good Morning America

Yesterday, FTVLive FIRST told you that ET Host Rob Marciano is headed to ABC's Good Morning America to take over Ginger Zee's old spot on the Weekend edition of GMA.

That isn't the only change going down at Good Morning America Weekend.

ABC sources tell FTVLive that Correspondent Paula Faris is being bumped up to host GMA Weekend. Faris joined ABC anchoring the very early morning “World News Now” and “America This Morning.”

In January 2013 Faris was promoted to Dayside Corespondent at ABC News. Now, sources tell us she is being bumped up again to GMA.

Our insiders tell FTVLive that Faris will replace current GMA Weekend Host Bianna Golodryga on the show.

FTVLive reached out to Faris' Agent Matthew Kingsley for comment on his client, he politely declined.

Our ABC sources say expect an announcement soon.

Ax Swings at Meredith's Phoenix Duop

Phoenix insiders tell FTVLive that the ax has begun swinging at newly purchased Meredith station KTVK.

FTVLive was the FIRST to tell you that KTVK GM Nick Nicholson's job was eliminated. Sources now tell FTVLive that the staff in KTVK's business office were told they are no longer needed.

The station is merging operations with KPHO. Word is that KPHO will be leaving their current building and moving in with KTVK.

As FTVLIve told you, KPHO GM Ed Munson is overseeing both stations and has been splitting his time between the two properties.

When KPHO moves over to KTVK, Munson's  office view will be of Camelback Mountain - at KPHO - it’s a parking lot.

Gee... I wonder why they decided to move into KTVK's building?

Just saying....

New England Cable News Anchor Erick Weber is packing up his bags and headed to Charlotte.

Weber is headed to headed to WJZY's Fox Charlotte, set to join the new Good Day Carolinas.

Weber was previously the morning News Anchor at WKMG in Orlando, before leaving for Boston in 2011.

Weber tells FTVLive that  Good Day Carolinas "show's conversational, free-flowing approach should make for some entertaining, engaging morning television in a world that's inundated with police-scanner newscasts."

Expect an official announcement from the station soon.

On Second Thought....I'll Delete That

Sometimes it's just best not to hit the publish button on Twitter.

CNN international correspondent Diana Magnay learned that lesson after she called a group Israelis “scum.”

Magnay tweeted that the group was cheering as Israel continued its aggressive action against Gaza:

She quickly deleted the controversial post. She's been silent on Twitter ever since.

KPRC in Houston has bumped up Assistant News Director Rhonda Errer LaVelle to the ND's chair.

LaVelle came to the Post-Newsweek station earlier this year as assistant news director.

Since May, LaVelle held the interim ND duties after former news director Deborah Collura bolted for the general manager gig at WCNC Charlotte.

Before Houston, LaVelle worked at sister station WDIV Detroit for 16 years. She left there as an executive producer.

Atlanta News Director Out

Well now...that didn't last very long.....

Meredith owned WGCL News Director Lane Michaelsen has left the station abruptly after just 15 months on the job.

Two sources tell the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Michaelsen wasn’t happy with the resources he was given to try to lift the station’s ratings.

The station is frequently in fourth place outside of the 11 p.m. telecast.

Managerial turnover at CBS46 has been chronic since WGCL came into existence two decades ago.

At the time Michaelsen was hired, his boss Trey Fabacher sent these comments via email to staffers: “Michaelsen has built a solid reputation of leading quality newscasts and storytelling. Rating increases have been seen very quickly at almost every post he has held. He is also very skilled in listening and learning about newsrooms and culture and making the right adjustments to place them in the best situation to be successful.”

Today, Fabacher wrote in an email, “Lane accepted another opportunity and we wish him well.” Fabacher, who joined WGCL in September, 2012 as general manager, said he isn’t in a position to announce Michaelsen’s new job.

Fox Affiliates Descend on Dallas

Suits from Fox stations around the country are gathering in Dallas for an emergency meeting with the network.

Broadcasting and Cable reports that station group leaders, concerned about new affiliation terms set out by Fox, have assembled for a hastily scheduled meeting to address the situation.

Fox network brass is aware of the meeting, but was not believed to be invited.

The meeting is "to discuss a variety of challenges, issues and opportunities," said Jeff Rosser, Fox affiliates board chairman, in an email to group leaders. Rosser noted "new demands being made by Fox, especially at a time when Fox primetime is down significantly."

One group chief with knowledge of the meeting's agenda said it was related to contract language in the affiliation renewal terms.

Rosser did not return a call for comment.

At least 60 station group leaders planned to attend-indicating the gravity of the matter.

Fox has traditionally been aggressive in its reverse compensation demands. Affiliates fought the terms bitterly back in 2011 but later conceded Fox's strategy for extracting maximum retrans cash from MVPDs-and from its partner stations--was a savvy one.

With Fox's primetime slumping, the affiliates body is less conciliatory these days.

ET Anchor Headed at GMA

rob-marciano.jpg

This morning, FTVLive told you that Entertainment Tonight co-host Rob Marciano was leaving. the show.

Marciano hinted that he already landed a new gig at a major news organization.

TVLive has learned which news organization he is headed to.

Marciano is headed to ABC's Good Morning America to take over Ginger Zee's old spot.

Zee was the weekend morning Weather Anchor before being bumped up to main gig when Sam Champion left for The Weather Channel.

Marciano will be taking the GMA Weekend Weather duties.

Before heading to ET 18 months ago, Marciano was a weather anchor at CNN.

Expect an announcement from ABC soon on his hiring.

Bad Start to the Day

Today has not gotten off to a good start.

When I got up at 4:45AM and stumbled into the FTVLIve World Headquarters, my Internet connection was running smoothly.

Just before 6AM, the connection went down. So, I packed up my new laptop and headed to Dunkin Donuts. I would have gone to Panera, but the Internet there is sooooooo slow it makes working next to impossible.

After ordering a donut and my ice tea at DD, i fired up my laptop, only to find that their Internet is down as well.

So, I packed up again and headed here to Panera. I have Internet, but it's about as fast as 1990's dial up.

I can't post full updates this morning until I can get my full Internet connection back.

If you think it is frustrating for you, try being on this end.

ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

If Murdoch Wants Time Warner, He'll get it! But, What happens to CNN?

Rupert-Murdoch321.jpg

Time Warner might have said "no" to Rupert Murdoch's first offer to buy the company, but don't count him out yet.

A stock broker told FTVLive that if Murdoch really wants Time Warner, he will get it.

If Murdoch does get TW, one of the first things he will likely do is sell off CNN.

So who would be interested in buying the one time 24 hour cable news network?

First on the list of potential buyers of CNN is one that FTVLive told you about over a year ago.

CBS has had interest in CNN for a very longtime and Murdoch might be willing to sell off the cable net to CBS for a good price.

Variety writes that CBS has a smaller cable-network portfolio than many of its peers, and putting CNN under its umbrella would help it amortize the costs incurred by CBS News, while letting it promote further the hard-news image and emphasis on foreign reportage it has used to guide shows like “CBS Evening News” and “CBS This Morning.” CBS has also been working on the launch of a streaming-video network for its news division, and partnering with CNN could lend that venture a boost.

Another potential buyer would be Al Jeezera.

Variety writes that the Qatar-backed cable-news outlet has deep pockets and getting hold of CNN might lend it more heft in its efforts to gain distribution from more cable systems. Disney’s ABC might also want to kick CNN’s tires. While ABC is a part owner of Fusion, a separate news network would give it more ways to use its ABC News, which has enjoyed new success with “Good Morning America” taking the ratings lead from NBC’s “Today” as well as a partnership with Yahoo.

Some inside CNN are worried about the future of the network, while others are hoping for CNN to be sold off.

"CNN has lost it's way, maybe CBS or someone else could help us find our way back to doing what we do best.....NEWS!, said one CNN staffer to FTVLive.

Time will tell and the ball is sitting firmly in Rupert Murdoch's court.
