ET Anchor Going Back to Real News

rob-marciano-entertainment-tonight-final-618x400.jpg

It appears that Entertainment Tonight co-host Rob Marciano is sick of the fluff and celebrities and is ready to go back to doing some real news.

The Wrap reports that the former CNN meteorologist and current ET Host is set to exit the syndicated magazine program just 18 months after coming on board.

Marciano informed “ET” he wanted to go back to his hard news roots, according to show insiders.

Word is that he already landed a new gig at a major news organization, which is expected to be announced in a matter of days.

LA Station Wants you to Snitch on your Neighbors

KABC wants its viewers to turn on their neighbors, all in the name of ratings.

The ABC O&O sent out this tweet:

While SoCal is experiencing an awful drought, the idea to ask neighbors to narc on each other just so the station will have a story, seems to be a bit shady.

It's not like they are asking you to turn in the water wasters to the authorities. They just want to be able to take a camera out and shame your neighbor and put it on the news.

Isn't local news just grand?

Wear Purple for the Weather Guy

WKBN (Youngstown) wants viewers to wear purple on July 21st in support of their longtime Weather Anchor Don Guthrie.

The station says that the “Wear Purple for Don Day” is to honor Guthrie’s 44th year of being a broadcaster for WKBN and show support for him in his battle against pancreatic cancer.

WKBN is asking the community to wear purple, the official color of pancreatic cancer awareness, in support of Guthrie. Guthrie’s children have crafted the special purple ribbon with the letters “DG” seen in the photo above.

“Don is our longest-tenured employee and an iconic figure in Youngstown broadcasting, but more than that, he is just a great guy,” said WKBN President and GM Dave Coy. “It’s very touching to know that he has such a connection with so many local viewers. What a fitting tribute and a great way for us all to show our support for Don.”

Monday, during WKBN 27 First News at 6PM, there will be a special update on Guthrie’s fight, and the First News team will break down the impact pancreatic cancer has on our Valley.

“The outpouring of support for Don has been heartwarming,” said WKBN 27 News Director Mitch Davis. “Viewers have sent hundreds of get-well cards, emails and care packages.  That shows how many people Don and his forecasts have touched.”

The First Replacement Has Been Named

John-Bachman.jpg

FTVLive was the FIRST to tell you that WTEV/WAWS was blowing out all their main Anchors and replacing them.

The Cox owned station is changing out the anchor team for the fall season.

Now the station has hired their first replacement. Action News Jax has hired John Bachman from sister station WSB in Atlanta.

Bachman has been in the A-T-L for the past seven years and will be headed to Jacksonville this fall after the old anchors have been pushed out.

Otherwise it might be a bit awkward.

Time Warner CEO Caught in a Lie

Well, we now know that Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes isn't the most honest guy.

Last week, Bewkes was in Sun Valley, Idaho, for the annual media conference.

Rumors have been swirling for a while now that Time Warner has been in play and could be an acquisition target for a number of companies.

Bewkes was asked straight up if he knew about any interest in Time Warner from Google or  Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox?

“I know nothing about it,” he said, before ducking away.

But after this morning's news that Murdoch's Fox had made an offer for TW in June, it showed that Bewkes was lying.

Of course he was put in a tough spot and we really doubt he wanted to break at the media conference in Idaho, but did he need to lie?

He could have just ignored the question or given a "no comment" but, instead he decided to not tell the truth.

And now he has been caught.

It's a story we doubt you will see reported on CNN.

Just saying....

Sinclair/Allbritton Deal is This/Close to Being a Done Deal

Sinclair has moved this/close to closing its long-pending $985 million purchase of the Allbritton stations.

The deal has moved into the final stages after Sinclair agreed to settle a lawsuit from the Justice Department requiring it to divest one of the seven stations it has agreed to buy.

The settlement was reached in the wake of Sinclair's agreement, announced last month, to sell the station to Media General.

The Justice Department had been concerned that Sinclair's acquisition of the station, Allbritton's ABC affiliate in Harrisburg, Pa., would give it too much power over advertising in the local market. Sinclair already owns a CBS affiliate and runs a CW affiliate in the same market.

"The rivalry between the stations has helped to constrain advertising rates, and without the divestiture, advertisers on stations in this area would likely have paid higher prices," said Bill Baer, assistant attorney general in charge of the Justice Department's Antitrust Division.

The settlement comes less than two weeks before a one-year clock will run out for Sinclair to get regulatory approval for its Allbritton deal. If approval isn't reached in time, Sinclair has said the deal may not close.

The settlement will "pave the way in fact for a DOJ approval," wrote Evercore analyst Doug Arthur. "Next stop: the FCC," referring to the Federal Communications Commission.

Error on CBS News

In the 4th inning of Baseball's All Star game, NY Yankee Shortstop Derek Jeter was pulled from the game for his final time.

This year has been part of Jeter's farewell tour after he announced that this season would be his last.

After Jeter was pulled from the game, CBS News sent out this tweet:

It is hard to believe that a network based in New York got the name wrong of a NY icon, but they did.

Shortly after that, CBS News followed up with a correction:

Jeter ended the All Star game with 2 hits and no errors.

The same could not be said for CBS News.

Anchor Shake Up at WNBC (Update)

Sources tell FTVLive that a huge anchor shake up is going down at WNBC in New York.

Update: It appears that our source gave us bad information in regards to Huff. Huff is represented by super Agent Carole Cooper at N.S. Bienstock. Cooper assures us that Huff is still in a longterm deal with the station and isn't going anywhere. FTVLive hates getting the story wrong, but we own up when that happens. This is one of those times.

Our source also told us that Morning Weather Anchor Chris Cimino will also be leaving the station. At this point, we don't not know how solid that information is.

We do know, from a number of sources that WNBC is currently looking to hire a new meteorologist.

We regret the error in reporting this story.

Former Anchor Wife Posts Bikini Selfies, While Former Anchor Hubby is in Court

Former WCBS Anchor Rob Morrison was back in court on Tuesday to face charges of harassing his wife former CBS MoneyWatch Anchor Ashley Morrison.

Rob got in more trouble with the court after trying to call Ashley 121 times over Memorial Day weekend.

While Rob was in court talking to the judge, Ashley was posting selfies of her in a bikini by a Miami pool with their 9-year-old son.

“I have relocated and I am happy to now call Florida home!!’’ wrote Ashley amid posts of other sexy selfies. “[Son] Jack and I will be spending a lot of our time relaxing, hanging out in the pool and getting our new house set up, until I go back to work in a couple of weeks!! — in Miami, FL,’’ she added.

She didn’t respond to questions asking where she now works.

Rob tried to explain his numerous phone calls to his wife. He said he only repeatedly phoned her because he’s supposed to get to video-chat with Jack daily — and hadn’t gotten through.

“I want the system to start working for me. I’m a great dad who deserves to spend time with his son,’’ he said.

Another hearing is set for August. But Morrison will be back in court again next week for the couple’s child-custody battle.

Is that Really on Her Own Time?

Yesterday, FTVLive told you about WWAY (Wilmington)  Reporter Sara Hopkins and how she is able to double her salary by pimping products and services on her social media accounts.

This practice would seem to not only cross the ethical line, but blow the line away completely.

WWAY News Director Scott Pickey says he has no problems with Hopkins doing the ads and points out that she does the ads on her own time.

But does she?

Sources say that the Vine ad that Hopkins did for Coke, appears that part was shot in the WWAY break room at the station.

Also, the guy in the ad looks just like WWAY Weekend Anchor Chris Brown.

Did Brown get paid by Coke as well? Was this really done on Hopkins own time? Should station property and staffers be used to pimp the products as well?

It appears the Hopkins and WWAY are headed down a very slippery slope.

Murdoch Made Offer to Buy Time Warner

Word is that Rupert Murdoch put in an offer to buy Time Warner, the parent company of CNN, HLN, TNT and TBS.

Murdoch made an $80 billion takeover bid, but so far Time Warner has said no to selling it owner of Fox and Fox News.

But now that Murdoch has made an offer, it likely puts Time Warner in play and  might again ignite a reshaping of the media industry, prompting a new spate of mega-mergers among the nation’s largest entertainment companies.

As part of Fox’s proposal to buy Time Warner, people briefed on the proposal said, Fox indicated that it would sell CNN to head off potential antitrust concerns since Fox News competes directly with CNN.

Putting CNN on the auction block would likely stir up a bidding war for the news channel; both CBS and ABC, a unit of the Walt Disney Company, have long been seen as interested suitors.

FTVLive FIRST reported back in February of 2013 that CBS was once again interested in buying CNN.

Stay tuned, this story is just getting started.

News 12 Reporter Quits After Demotion

43591ae7d34ca7e84e53fd356b0f7f0f.png

Yesterday, FTVLive told you that News 12 New Jersey Reporter Sean Bergin had been suspended for something that he said.

Bergin has been told to stay home after he argued on the air that the “anti-cop mentality that has so contaminated America’s inner cities” is largely the result of “young black men growing up without fathers.”

Now word comes that Bergin has quit his job after being demoted by the station.

Bergin says News 12 made him an “offer I had to refuse.”

The station told Bergin that they would be slashing his work schedule to only one day a week

“They offered me one day of work a week doing only light features, and no hard news,” Bergin told TheBlaze. “It was only about $300-a-week — who can survive on that?”

Bergin admitted that he “broke the rules” by editorializing during his reaction to a story surrounding the tragic murder of Jersey City police officer Melvin Santiago.

“It has made the police officer’s job impossible and it has got to stop,” he told TheBlaze. “The underlying cause of all of this, of course: young black men growing up without fathers. Unfortunately, no one in the news media has the courage to touch that subject.”
