Negotiations Turn Sour with ABC and Josh Elliott

ABC sources tell FTVLive that negotiations between ABC and Good Morning America Anchor Josh Elliott have started to turn nasty.

While ABC was about to get a deal done with Robin Roberts very quickly, that is not the case with Elliott.

Elliott joined GMA in almost 2 years ago and has been part of the team that helped the morning show knock the Today Show off as the leader.

Word is that Elliott's agent has been trying to drum up interest at other networks to help force ABC's hand.

While the two sides have been talking for the past few months, sources tell FTVLive that the negotiations have gotten much more tense the past few sessions.

Scripps Sees Revenue Fall

images.jpeg

The E.W. Scripps today reported fourth quarter television station revenue Today and it was down, something the company blames on lack of political revenue.

Scripps revenue was at $115 million for the 4th quarter , a decrease of $36.7 million from the year-ago quarter or a drop of 24.2%.

The Company says the prior-year period included $56.9 million of political revenue.

Core local and national television advertising revenue rose 17%, rebounding and growing in the near absence of political spending compared to 2012.

Commenting on the results, Scripps Chairman, President and CEO Rich Boehne said: “Our growing television operations finished 2013 strong, rebuilding their core local and national advertising categories in the off year for political spending and delivering strong growth in retransmission revenue. We expect our core business to grow again in 2014, and with the expected strength in political advertising in the second half, television is set up for a good year.

“In the year ahead, we’ll also see the early results of our unique paid digital content strategy at WCPO.com in Cincinnati as well as audience and advertiser reaction to a new suite of mobile and tablet products in all our local TV and newspaper markets. Our sites also have migrated to a new platform offering a better and more advanced experience based on responsive design. These investments in digital products for advertisers and audiences have been backed up by the addition of more than 100 sales professionals to drive our aggressive digital revenue strategy.”

TVInteract is Acquired by Tagboard

unnamed.png

You can't say FTVLive doesn't know a good thing when we see it. Back last year we wrote about the one app ever TV station should have called TVInteract.

The social media app was dreamt up by former Seattle Anchor Jenni Hogan and it makes bringing social media to TV station's air a very simple process.

We thought the idea was a home run and wrote it about on FTVLive.

This year, TVInteract became a sponsor on FTVLive.

Today, Hogan and her company, only in existence for a few months has been acquired by Tagboard.

Tagboard, a Seattle-based social media software company and acquisition brings together two companies that are leading innovation in social media tools across multiple consumer touch points.

As part of the acquisition, TVinteract Founder and CEO Hogan will join Tagboard immediately as Chief Media Officer. In this role Hogan will lead the company’s media and broadcast strategy along with continuing to develop innovative products to help move the Social TV industry forward. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Tagboard, founded by CEO Josh Decker, COO Tim Shimotakahara, and CPO Sean Sperte, is committed to growing and building TVinteract to expand its global offerings in the social TV market. Tagboard aggregates social media from source networks, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google Plus, and others, offering curation and display tools for mobile and web applications, as well as for large-format screens, such as stadium video boards.

Tagboard works with leading global companies, organizations, and events to safely host, amplify, and promote curated social media related to their brands and properties. The company's clients include Microsoft, Intel, Jaguar, Boeing, Samsung, Nordstrom, the Seattle Seahawks, the Boston Bruins, superstar musical acts like One Direction, and numerous other businesses, organizations, and communities of all sizes.

“Tagboard is committed to building a powerful and innovative technology platform that delivers social media engagement to new audiences. The acquisition of TVinteract reinforces Tagboard’s leadership in the convergence of traditional and social media, and expands our audience reach,” said Decker. “We’re also thrilled about having a social media visionary like Jenni Hogan join the Tagboard team.”

In TVinteract, Tagboard picks up a company that is leading the way in social TV by offering tools for talent that are not found elsewhere in the market today. TVinteract provides on-air integrations for some of the largest networks and cable stations, news broadcasts, talk shows and webcasts worldwide, as well as hundreds of local news broadcasts including FOX New York, CBS Philadelphia and NBC Seattle.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Tagboard’s world-class team. They are clear innovators in the social technology space,” said Hogan. “I’ve experienced the power of the second screen and viewer engagement when it comes to live broadcasts, and now we’re combining forces to take that to a whole new level.”

What does this mean for TV stations using the app? It's about to get even better and more options are headed your way.

FTVLive saw Hogan's company as a groundbreaker and this latest news proves we were dead on the money.

Farrow Flops in First Week

MSNBC boss Phil Griffin said it only took him 20 minutes to be impressed with Ronan Farrow, it seems it is taking viewers a lot longer to warm up to Ronan.

To sum up Farrow's numbers for the first week in two words, They Suck!

Farrow's show was the lowest rated show on the network in both total viewers and the A25-54 demos two days last week.

His best day was Thursday and it still pulled and awful 320,000 total viewers and 79,000 in the demo.

“Ronan Farrow Daily” averaged 243,000 total viewers and 55,000 demo viewers for the week. That was down over 40% from Andrea Mitchell Reports, which is the show he replaced.

Ouch!

Nooooooo! Please Make it Stop!

FTVLive told you last week at WKRC (Cincinnati) Anchor Bob Herzog took the song from Disney's hit movie 'Frozen' called 'Let it Go' and changed the words a bit to fit the words of a Traffic Reporter.

Because nobody is better at stealing ideas than TV news people (remember the ice desk?), parodies of the Frozen song are popping up on TV newscasts left and right.

Here's the last by WGN's Dan Ponce who used to sing professionally.

The Cookie Monster

The Cookie Monster

News cameras were in the right place at the right time as Police in Escondido, Calif., chased down a man accused of stealing a jar of donation money from two Girl Scouts.

A news camera was rolling as officers tackled 21-year-old David Betancourt, who attempted to flee when an arrest warrant was served at his home.

The Girl Scouts, sisters Gracie and Zoe Fullerton, had been collecting the funds to send cookies to troops overseas.

The story was broadcast on KTLA, but the video was watermarked with CBS News 8.

So now TV stations are becoming TMZ.

It's that nice....NOT!

The video is up after the jump.

Under the Weather....

I have to apologize for the light updating Today. Although it is a gorgeous day in Florida, sunny and 80 degrees, I have been knocked on my ass by a very nasty cold.

Either that, or Jeff Zucker is pumping the flu virus through the ventilation system here at the FTVLive World Headquarters.

I will continue to try and update the site between naps, coughing attacks and nose blowing.

Thanks for your patience.

Piers Morgan Says He'll Stay on at CNN

Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 5.55.37 AM.png

Back on October 1st of last year FTVLive reported the World Exclusive that CNN was going to drop Piers Morgan from his 9PM time slot (Read that story at this link).

We also wrote in that story "Word is that CNN could offer Morgan another role at the network...."

Now, it appears that FTVLive hit the nail dead on the head with that report from last year.

Morgan told Showbiz 411 that he’s staying at the network. “I’ll make a deal to do 20 ro 25 shows a year, all interviews with big names. That’s what I wanted to do in the first place, not reports on snow storms and that kind of thing.”

Morgan trying to save face by saying he was not interested in a nightly show, he was and he is still stinging from the plug being pulled on his Piers Morgan Live at 9PM.

Morgan says he expects a "news show of some kind" will replace his old show at 9PM.

CNN Cuts Off Ukraine Coverage for the Oscars?!

While the whole world is watching the situation in the Ukraine, CNN cut off coverage about the Ukraine for something much bigger.

While US General James Marks was talking about what was happening in the Ukraine and what it means the United States, CNN cut him off for some big breaking news.

Their coverage live from the Red Carpet.

Are you freaking kidding me?!

Let's go to the video:

Back last September, FTVLive first told you that KSAT News Director Jim Boyle was stepping down from the station because of health issues.

We're sad to report that Boyle died over the weekend.

Boyle, 66, had battled cancer for five months, the station reported. He retired from the station late last year.

Boyle had been at the station for 29 years.

Boyle was 66 years old.
