Roger and Rachel

RogerAiles.jpg

It seems that Fox News boss Roger Ailes might be having a little fun pulling MSNBC's chain a bit.

Mediaite says that Ailes was spotted last week meeting with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow.

Ailes has professed to be a fan of Maddow and the two seemed to be enjoying each other's company at the Carlyle on Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Was Roger exploring talks of bringing Maddow over to Fox News?

Just the thought of that would likely make Sean Hannity's head explode.

Guess You Can Call Him Roger Mud

NBC News Reporter Miguel Almaguer did the LA version of standing in the middle of a Hurricane.

Almaguer stood in the middle of a mudslide and ended up having to be rescued by firemen and a man whose house was near the site of the report.

It was all part of Almaguer's "LOKK AT ME" report on the mudslides, when he decided to wade out into the mud to show just how deep it was. Because using video and telling us....well that's just not how TV news is done now-a-days.

Almaguer will forever ben known around NBC as an old stuck in the mud kind of guy.

Meredith Closes Deal on St. Louis Station

The ink is dry and Meredith now is the official owner of KMOV in St. Louis.

"We're pleased to add this high-performing station to our portfolio,"said Meredith Chairman-CEO Stephen M. Lacy. "The acquisition of KMOV adds another Top 25 television market to our group, and is consistent with our successful ‘Total Shareholder Return’ strategy. Together with KCTV (CBS) in Kansas City, Meredith now has powerful local brands in two of the Midwest's top news and sports markets."

The deal to close on KTVK in Phoenix is expected to be buttoned up by the end of June.

Howie Kurtz to Take on Stephen Colbert

Fox News Media Critic Howie Kurtz says "It’s about time someone took on Stephen Colbert. This guy—a fake anchor if ever there was one—has been maligning hard-working journalists for too long. Journalists like me."

Ummmm.... first of all Howie....yes Stephen Colbert is a "fake anchor"...... that's kind of his job. Did you also know Howie that you can also save money of your car insurance by switching to Gieco?

As for you being a hard working Journalist?

No Anchorman 3

anchorman_2_41893.jpg

If you are one of those that suffered through the Anchorman 2 movie like we did, we have good news for you.

There will be no Anchorman 3.

While the original Anchorman was a hit, especially with those that work in TV news, the sequel was a painful bomb that was hard to sit through.

Anchorman Director Adam McKay says it looks like the franchise will end with the Anchorman 2 flop. He says there is no plans for another one.

"It’s done. I think that’s it. It was great to do it and it was so fun to work with those guys again, but I think that’s it for Ron Burgundy… No, [Anchorman 2] is the last sequel we’re gonna do. There’s nothing more fun to me than new characters and a new world. And now we’re releasing this alt version, we’re totally satisfied. No Anchorman 3," said McKay.

WREG Tops Memphis Ratings

wreg_news_channel_3_memphis.jpg

WREG, the CBS affiliate in Memphis came out on top on the ratings in the February book.

Even though competitor WMC had the Olympic games, the station was still not able to pass WREG in the numbers.

WREG was handily out front in the ratings at 4PM and 5PM. At 6PM the race tightens up a bit, but WREG wins by about a half a rating point.

In the late news you would expect WMC to win with having the Olympics as their lead in.  They did not.

WREG took a lead in rating of 7.1 and just about doubled it to a 14 rating. WMC took their 10.0 rating lead in and dropped to a 9.8.

Clearly WREG is the ratings leader in Memphis.

Golden Eye for the Ratings

Golden Eye for the Ratings

FTVLive has already told you that we will not be posting as many ratings stories from the just concluded February book.

The Olympics on NBC has skewed the numbers enough that in reality the Feb book is mainly just a throw out.

But, looking at the ratings press releases sent our way and the stories posted about ratings, we did notice a one thing in common with the theme of the stories.

See just what it is after the jump.

Ummmmm.... That's Not Good News

woai-san-antonio-logo.png

You know it's bad when the Olympics give you great lead in numbers and you still finish in 3rd place in the late news ratings.

That is exactly what happened to WOAI in San Antonio.

The Winter Olympics boosted local NBC affiliate WOAI-TV to a prime-time win, but still couldn't get their 10PM newscast out of the basement.

The San Antonio Express News says that ABC affiliate KSAT, the traditional news frontrunner here, skated once again to a No. 1 ranking in most news slots: morning, noon, 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and for the flagship 10 p.m. hour, anchored by Isis Romero and Steve Spriester.

Box score at 10 p.m.: KSAT with a 10.3 rating; KENS-TV with a 7.9; WOAI with a 6.2. A ratings point equals approximately 9,062 San Antonio homes.

“We're up in the morning, up at noon, up at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. from last February,” Phil Lane, KSAT's general manager, said in an email Thursday.

KSAT also pulled off a solid two-point lead at 10 p.m. without much help from ABC's prime-time lineup, which finished fourth in San Antonio behind Fox (KABB) and CBS (KENS).

It will be interesting to watch WOAI over the next month or two, changes have to be made to their late news. If you couldn't win the ratings with the Olympics as a lead-in, you're in a world of hurt.
