Stop Hitting on the Anchor and Help End the Shutdown

It appeared that Republican Rep. Todd Rokita was more interested in hitting on CNN Anchor Carol Costello then he was about ending the shutdown.

Politico writes that in an exchange over the Republican opposition to the Affordable Care Act, Costello told Rokita the American people would prefer Congress to fight over the health care law outside the federal budget, to which the Indiana Republican said "Carol, we seem to be going around in circles."

"Right, we're going in circles ... that's what you guys are doing,” Costello said.

“No, you’re part of the problem. The media is part of the problem as well," Rokita said.

“Oh come on, that’s so easy," Costello said.

“Carol, you’re beautiful but you have to be honest as well," Rokita said, at which points Costello ended the interview with an "OK, I think we should leave it here."

What the CNN Anchor thought about the Congressman's comments, plus the video after the jump.

Buffalo Anchor Reaches Milestone

Jacquie640_20120605150920_640_480.JPG

It's not often that an Anchor stays in a market for 30 years, it's even less rare that they stay at the same station for that long.

On October 3, 1983, Jacquie Walker started at WIVB in Buffalo as an anchor on the station's Noon show.

30 years later, Walker is still sitting in the anchor chair. She now anchors the 5-6 and 11PM newscast for the station.

We're not that big on anniversaries, but 30 years at the same station is pretty darn impressive.

The furthest we ever made it was 4 years.

Ummmm... We're Sorry

Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 10.37.43 AM.png

It took months, but a Milwaukee station has finally said they are sorry for a misleading report about the actions of a Milwaukee Police officer.

Back over the Summer, WTMJ did a story that used surveillance video showing Officer Matthew Knight using another man's PIN number to withdraw cash from an ATM. The station screamed in a promotion that the story, reported by Jermont Terry was an "explosive I-Team investigation." Adding "It's the video that will have everyone talking.

The promotion for the story implied misconduct and criminal activity by Knight. He sued the station saying that the station ran the promo "even though staffers knew" he had been cleared of any wrongdoing.

According to the lawsuit, the man who's PIN number Knight used  had smashed a taxicab window and the driver said he would not press charges if the man paid the driver $300.

After the transaction, the man paid the driver who signed Knight's memo book as proof of payment.

WTMJ finally went on the air with an apology that sounded more like it was written by the station's lawyer than a Producer.

Here's their on air apology:

Zucker Takes Another One from ABC

mq1.jpg

As FTVLive has told you, since Jeff Zucker took over at CNN, a majority of his hires have come from either ABC or NBC.

Today Zucker announced another hire, and surprise the person is from ABC News.

CNN hired Jay Shaylor as the new executive producer of The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

Shaylor had been senior producer at Good Morning America for the last 7 years.

Shaylor replaces Patricia DiCarlo, who was named director of CNN’s investigations unit.

Nashville Station is Lazy or Lying

wsmv.gif

Hey, we admit that reporting on Healthcare is not the most exciting thing for most Reporters.

But, it's still no excuse to get lazy. Or worse, just outright lie to the viewers.

WSMV in Nashville was reporting on the Affordable Healthcare Act... if you have never heard of that because most media insist on calling it Obamacare, instead of it's real name.

Anyway, WSMV reported that they couldn't find a single person in Nashville that signed up for the new Federal healthcare. Not one person.

Here is a portion on their report:

Now, either WSMV is pandering to the GOP or they are just plain lazy. FTVLive in less than 10 seconds in a Google search found Tennessee State University (which is located in the heart of Nashville) student Sam Rutherford.

Rutherford signed up for the insurance on Tuesday. "Some 15 years ago I was in a sledding accident that resulted in me losing a few important organs, and I've been virtually uninsurable since that time, " Rutherford said. "The cost due to my preexisting condition has been out of reach to me."

You expect the cable nets to lean to one side or the other, but Local news stations should stick to reporting the facts and not lie to the viewers.  Let's leave the lying to the Politicians.

Shame on WSMV for either lying or being lazy. Either way they station lost their credibility if you ask us.

And the Golden Pylon Goes to....

Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 9.01.54 AM.png

When you're a kid, you dream of being many things, a pro athlete, a singer, a doctor and so on. You also dream of winning awards, the Nobel Peace Prize, a Tony, Heisman Trophy and others.

But, I bet you were like a lot of kids, hoping that one day they would grow up and win the Golden Pylon Award.  I know I sure did.

Well that dream was realized last night for some LA Traffic Reporters.

The Golden Pylon Awards spotlight true-grit traffic reporters whose on-air traffic talk keeps rush-hour commuters in the know about alternatives to solo driving.

The coveted award ceremony was held last night in LA.

5 Traffic Reporters (which means pretty much everyone in the market) walked away with the Golden Pylon.

They are:

  • California Highway Patrol Officer Jose Barrios, reporting traffic conditions on FOX 11, Univision 34, Telemundo 52, Radio Mexico and KFRN-Family.
  • Ginger Chan (pictured), transit savvy traffic reporter for KTLA-TV and 102.7 KIIS-FM.
  • Jeff Baugh, assisting the public in finding better commuting options on KNX 1070.
  • Mike O’Brien, bringing up-to-the-minute traffic info on KNX 1070.
  • Sabina Mora, helping the public “Beat the Traffic” on KHHT, KFSH, KRLA, KKLA.

Not every kid grows up to win a Golden Pylon, we're betting their Moms are so proud.

Website Publishes Reporters Home Addresses and Phone Numbers

Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 6.16.16 AM.png

A website called Deadbeatlink.com is publishing the home addresses and phone numbers of Journalists in South Florida.

The reason?

They say that the Reporters are "lazy and don't feel like investigating and are NOT reporting on serious issues."

So far the site has published the addresses and phone numbers for Reports with the Palm Beach Post, Palm Beach Daily News and WPEC, the Sinclair station in West Palm.

The site includes the personal info of a number WPEC Reporters and Anchors including that of anchor Susan Boyd.

Deadbeatlink.com writes:

Susan M Boyd is a reporter for WPEC Channel 12 in West Palm Beach. As journalists, the staff of the WPEC have chosen to ignore select political figures in Palm Beach County, turning their heads while their agencies run rampant with corruption, ranging in crimes of moral turpitude, stealing from tax payers to even committing murder. They cover things up in their own industry; if a member of the media commits rape, they are dismissed quietly and it is ignored by the rest of the media, deemed not worthy of news.

Instead of investigating these actions, Susan Boyd has chosen to ignore the respected position working in the field of journalism. Instead, these journalists choose to focus on people that cannot touch them. They take these people without knowing all the facts, or even wilfully ignoring these facts, and they splash their names across the papers or TV screens. In some cases, they publish their addresses.

We are returning the favor. Susan Boyd lives at:
(redacted by FTVLive)
Lake Worth, FL.

Drop by and let them know what you think of their reporting. As members of the media, they would think nothing of doing it to you. Or, give them a call late one night on their home phone, which is (561) redacted by FTVLive.

In statement made on video using digitally altered voice, the website claims that publishing the information is a form of protest against repo rters that they claim are too “lazy” to cover corruption in Palm Beach County.

Here is the statement"

Former Orlando Anchor May Have Another Round with Chemo

Former Orlando Anchor May Have Another Round with Chemo

Former WESH (Orlando) Anchor Wendy Chioji is one hell of a strong person. Never mind that she runs marathons and triathlons about as often as I cut the grass, this woman has a strong mind.

Chioji was a very popular anchor in O-Town for 20 years. She left the daily TV game to work on other projects and of course run marathons and triathlons and bike the mountains of colorado and jump from planes and wrestle bears (you get the idea).

Along that path, Chioji also battled cancer, a fight that she won because....well she is super human.

But the sad news is that cancer is taken another run a Chioji and she has two group of doctors telling her she needs different treatment. It's a dilemma that even has her confused.

More on the story after the jump.

FTVLive told you about the traffic we is getting from gun enthusiasts websites. They are overjoyed that CNN is looking for a replacement for Piers Morgan.

After FTVLive broke the news, CNN has been getting a lot of email from people encouraging them to follow through on sending Piers packing.

Here is one email sent to CNN from a gun store owner:

Dear Sir:

I understand from Yahoo.com today that you are discontinuing your association with Piers Morgan, I just want to say, THANK YOU, its about time, I can't think of a big moron that Morgan.  I will start watching CNN again, when he leaves.  And I love Solidate O'Brien.  When your ready to replace Morgan Please consider me, I am a self proclaimed firearm expert.

Damn! Old Tyres isn't going to be happy when he turns on CNN and sees that Solidate O'Brien is no longer on the network's morning show.

I wonder if Solidate is related to Soeldad O'Brien?

Stick a Fork Vin Scully, He's Just about Done

24848.jpg

Vin Scully has been calling LA Dodgers baseball games long before I was born (and I'm freaking old).

But the legendary announcer hinted that 2014 might be his last season behind the microphone.

Scully, 85, announced earlier this season he would return next year for his 65th season announcing Dodgers games. He began his career in Brooklyn, moving west with the Dodgers in 1958.

"I'm pretty well sure -- and I don't want to go back and forth with it -- but I'm looking to next year and thinking that should be about it," Scully told KPCC.

For this postseason, Scully is returning to his radio roots, announcing the first three and final three innings of the Dodgers' NLDS games against the Atlanta Braves. He has in the past threatened to retire the following year only to change his mind and return. During the regular season, Scully does not travel to games east of Denver.

Los Angeles' new mayor, Eric Garcetti, floated the idea of naming a street after Scully, but the broadcaster said he didn't feel worthy of such an honor.
