Weatherman Fined $200 for Crash that Almost Killed Him

Weatherman Fined $200 for Crash that Almost Killed Him

It's bad enough that he spent days in the hospital after a car crash that almost killed him. Also, he had to shop for a new car after the old one was totaled.

Now, Roanoke Weatherman Jamey Singleton has been fined $200 for that very same crash.

A judge ordered Singleton Yesterday to pay a $200 fine for causing the February crash that sent him and two other men to the hospital.

Singleton pleaded not guilty in Bedford County District Court to misdemeanor reckless driving, according to online court records.

The charge was amended to driving on the wrong side of the highway, an infraction, court records show.

Whatever Happened to....

BNCsDx6CUAAL_tR.jpg-large.jpeg

Remember Dave Price?

Here is the goofy weatherman on The CBS Early Show before it was let go when CBS decided to change the show yet again.

Price then popped up at WNYW's Good Day New York, before he was booted of the show in January.

This morning, FTVLive spies spotted Price guest hosting WFLD's Good Day Chicago (picture above).

Is this a tryout for something bigger?

Stay tuned.....

Dallas Station Does a 180 on 4PM Newscast

wfaalogo-standard.png

It looks like WFAA in Dallas has changed their tune on doing a 4PM newscast.

While both KXAS and KTVT in Dallas have started up 4PM newscasts, WFAA has spent the last couple of years poo-pooing the idea of an afternoon newscast.

But now it looks like that has changed.

The station has posted a job opening for  “a producer who will plan and create WFAA’s first 4 p.m. newscast.”

Applicants “must be creative, able to producer interactive and smart newscasts and have a good understanding of Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms to incorporate into the newscast,” the job description says.

Word is the new newscast will launch in the Fall.

in the past WFAA GM Mike Devlin shot down the idea of the station doing a 4PM newscast saying that it would tax the resources and budget of the station while also saturating the 4PM hour with too much local news.

The station currently is running Couric's talk show "Katie" at 4PM. "Katie" lost to both competitors 4PM newscasts in the May book.

No word if Gannett who is buying WFAA was part of the decision of the 4PM cast or if GM Devlin just changed his mind all of the sudden?

One Newscast in and One Out

WFTV_9_ABC.png

When Orlando's WFTV launched a new 4PM newscast last week, the station quietly canned another newscast in a different time slot.

WFTV pulled the plug on the 6:30PM newscast they were producing on their sister station WRDQ-Channel.

"With the launch of the 4 p.m. news on WFTV, we felt it was the right time to put sitcoms in that hour, to prepare for the fall and to use some of the 6:30 resources for the 4PM," says Shawn Bartelt, general manager of WFTV and WRDQ.

Firing Back at Scott

Megyn-Kelly-e1346092931407.jpeg

Yesterday, FTVLive told you about CBS Anchor Scott Pelley and his take on cable news.

Pelley basically said that cable news does not matter and that the cable news channels have decided to bite off one small part of the viewership and be happy with that 200,000 viewers, 300,000 viewers that they have.

Well you just knew that Fox News wasn't going to let Pelley's comments be out there without a response.

FNC's Megyn Kelly fired back at Pelley and his comments with a few of her own.

Kelly defended Fox News and its ratings. "Well we beat you on all the debates and the election nights, Scott," Kelly said. "But okay! Okay, that's what Fox News did."

Ouch!

Traveling to Enemy Territory

Traveling to Enemy Territory

FTVLive always gets a kick out of how the local news anchors don't give a crap about their sports teams, until they make it to the finals.

Then they jump on the bandwagon in a big way.

It's always interesting watching local news and how they treat things when local teams make runs to the championship.

Most often these features are cringe worthy at best.

But every now and then, they turn out a pretty good one.

WGN's Pat Tomasulo traveled to Boston as the Stanley Cup Finals between the Bruins and the Blackhawks move into game 3 in Beantown.

Tomasulo brought some gifts with him from Chicago: namely Blackhawks rally towels. He walked around Boston trying to give them out but is greeted pretty much how you would expect from Bruins fans.

Remembering Seattle Anchor

Remembering Seattle Anchor

It was the bottom of the seventh. Two on, two outs in a loser-go-home game between Ballard and Inglemoor high schools in the KingCo softball playoffs.

As Andrea Jewett stepped up to bat, the weight of a win on her shoulders, her father, Rick Jewett, stepped back from his spot on the sidelines and closed his eyes.

“If you can help her out,” he prayed to his late wife, Kathi Goertzen. “Be with her ...”

“The next pitch, Andrea hit it over the fence,” Jewett recalled the other day. “The team mobbed her, I was crying ...”

For joy, yes. But also because Goertzen, the longtime and well-loved co-anchor for Seattle’s KOMO-TV news, wasn’t there to see it.

She died last Aug. 13 at 54 after a long and public fight with meningioma, a tumor that grows on the brainstem. Goertzen had repeated surgeries to remove recurring tumors over the last several years, before eventually dying of pneumonia.

Now, as the anniversary of her death approaches, Jewett sat to talk about the days that have passed since, and how he and his two daughters have managed to carry on.

“As much as you’d think I was prepared for this, it was pretty shocking,” he said of Goertzen’s death. “We didn’t talk about what we were going to do when she was gone. We never left the positive realm.”

New York Anchor Charged with Assault

Screen Shot 2013-06-17 at 7.04.20 PM.png

Move over Rob Morrison and make room for Bill Evans.

WABC Morning Weatherman Bill Evans and his wife Dana Evans have both been charged with assault and disorderly conduct.

Word is the charges come from argument the couple had back in early May.

Dana Evans talked about the incident during a counseling session. It was then suggested to her that she report the incident to police.

She did and after looking into the matter, charges were filed.

The couple are both expected to appear in Stamford, Connecticut court tomorrow.

“Connecticut law requires that the Police refer all reports of domestic arguments, no matter how minor, to the Superior Court, and the Greenwich Police actions Thursday were required by law,” read a statement issued by Mr. Evans’ lawyer. “We expect that Bill will be exonerated and this case will be quickly forgotten.”

Mrs. Evans’ lawyer explained, “Obviously divorces can get emotional and we expect Dana to be cleared of these charges in due time. The safety, privacy and welfare of her family continue to be her primary concern.”

Bill Evans has been with WABC for 23 years. Needless to say, the station is not talking.

Imagine that.

This morning FTVLive reported that WESH (Orlando) anchor Martha Sugalski will be off the news soon to deliver triplets. She plans to enter the hospital a week from Monday, and the babies watch will begin.

Well the time frame has been sped up a bit.

Sugalski just sent out some tweets and it looks like the Trips are looking to make their first on camera appearance at anytime:

It's a New Day

It's a New Day

CNN latest attempt at a relevant morning show hit the air at 6AM this morning.

"New Day" built around a new anchor team of Chris Cuomo, Kate Bolduan and news reader Michaela Pereira kicked off at 6AM.

The show kicked off with the voice of James Earl Jones introducing the show, which really excited Chris Cuomo.

Kate Bolduan admitted on the air to having a few butterflies.

What you won't see on the show is cooking or dancing, at least that is what New Day EP Jim Murphy says. "We are not reinventing the wheel," says Murphy. And while "we have the resources to cover everything and be everywhere, all the time," high jinks will take a back seat on the set. "You won't see cooking and dancing and things like that."

But in the end it will come down to Chemistry (right Ann Curry?).

Scott Pelley: Cable News Doesn't Matter

Scott Pelley: Cable News Doesn't Matter

Scott Pelley just celebrated his two year anniversary in the anchor chair at the CBS Evening News.

In those 2 years, the ratings have made a slow steady climb from the abyss and many would argue that day in and day out, CBS is doing the best evening newscast.

There is no question that Pelley himself believes that. He also believes that CBS News is heads and tails better than the cable news outlets.

Speaking to Deadline, Pelley gives his impressions on cable news and it's not hard to tell he's not impressed with any of it.

See what he has to say about cable news after the jump.

Man Busted for Assaulting News Crew

lynn.gordon.wpec_.slumlord.jpg

A landlord was busted by police after he grabbed the mic from WPEC (West Palm Beach) reporter Lynn Gordon.

Gordon was reporting on the landlord who they say would not repair the broken septic tanks at his property.

Gordon and photojournalist Frank Porter approached Nabil Kashik as he walked down the street near the property to ask him about the tenant situation. He then grabbed the microphone from Gordon's hand.

A resident who saw the confrontation called 911. Cops arrived, watched WPEC’s video, and arrested Nabil Kashik for assault later charging him with battery.

The highest paid CEO working in New York City is not heading up a big Wall Street firm, or a giant bank.

He's watching over CBS.

CBS’ Leslie Moonves was the city’s highest-paid chief executive officer, earning $60.3 million last year, according to a new report.

The television exec’s salary was $24 million more than any other CEO in the city, and five times more than the average of other top bosses at CBS, Crain’s New York Business reported.

A CBS spokesman defended Moonves’ pay, noting the Tiffany Network has posted record profits under his leadership. The broadcast network’s net income increased 6% and it has claimed the top spot among major television channels in the key 18-to-49-year-old demographic.

Ralph Lauren came in second, earning $36.3 million in 2012, according to just-compiled data by GMI Ratings, an advisory firm.

Brooks, who joined WETM  in January of 2011, as a general assignment reporter is headed to WTVJ.
