WESH (Orlando) anchor Martha Sugalski will be off the news soon to deliver triplets. She plans to enter the hospital a week from Monday, and the babies watch will begin.

She describes it as a blessed time. It has been hectic, too. She has continued to work at all hours, and she has written a blog about her experiences.

"This blog has been extremely popular," WESH General Manager Jim Carter said. "It is possible she'll be working one night, and she’ll deliver babies the next day. Martha’s a bit of a fighter. She likes to work."

After the hop, she answers a few questions about anchoring the news with 3 people growing inside you.

Back at the Top in Toledo

What a difference a year makes. In the May, 2012, Nielsens, WTOL-TV, Channel 11, enjoyed the largest share of area viewership, winning all four of the afternoon and evening newscasts in total viewers.

For the just-released May, 2013, sweeps, however, WTOL finished first only twice among viewers 2 and older and with one tie. The year-to-year ratings trend has the CBS affiliate down in total viewership in all but one of the station's newscasts.

WTVG-TV, Channel 13, meanwhile, seemed to absorb some of those channel-changing viewers, with year-to-year improvements in total viewership in all of its newscasts.

Longtime WBAY (Green Bay) Anchor Bill Jartz has been missing from the station's 10 p.m. newscast.

Word is that Jartz underwent surgery on a torn quad muscle following an accident.

Doctors orders are not letting he drive as he recovers and the station is doing him a solid by not making him work the late newscast.

He can still be seen on the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts. Jartz has been an anchor in the 10 p.m. slot since 1998.

Across the street at WFRV, the station has hired retired WLUK, Channel 11, meteorologist John Chandik as a temporary weekend replacement until they find a permanent one for longtime meteorologist Tom Mahoney, who retired last month.

Not you're caught up on the anchor changes in Green Bay.

WKBW reporter Kyla Igoe has given her notice and is leaving the station after more than five years as a backpack journalist.

Mike Nurse, who officially will be the station's general manager in two weeks, confirmed her departure. He said it was Igoe's decision to opt out of her contract "to focus on her family and to work with with her husband in his videography enterprise."

"We appreciate her efforts and wish her well in her new ventures," added Nurse.

Igoe is the daughter of former WGRZ consumer reporter Mike Igoe. She could not be reached immediately for comment.

Nurse added the station will soon be announcing a variety of new additions that will include Igoe's replacement.

Blaming the Weatherman for Deaths

Blaming the Weatherman for Deaths

Frightened by a TV meteorologist’s warning to get underground, Virginia Shrum fled with her family and a friend to a long drainage tunnel behind their Oklahoma City apartment on May 31 to escape an approaching tornado.

It became a death trap.

In all, 11 people from the apartment sought shelter in the concrete tunnel, which starts at SW 15 just west of Interstate 44 and ends a quarter-mile away at the Oklahoma River.

Five died.

Four of the dead were children, ages 4 and younger. The body of one — a baby girl — has not been recovered.

So, which weatherman are they blaming? Find out after the hop.

Someone Was Snooping on Sharyl's Computer

Screen Shot 2013-06-14 at 1.26.31 PM.png

CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson claimed in May that she thought he computer had been compromised.

Now, CBS News says that she was right.

CBS has released this statement:

“A cyber security firm hired by CBS News has determined through forensic analysis that Sharyl Attkisson’s computer was accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions late in 2012. Evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely using Attkisson’s accounts. While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data.

This party also used sophisticated methods to remove all possible indications of unauthorized activity, and alter system times to cause further confusion.

CBS News is taking steps to identify the responsible party and their method of access.”

Rotting in Jail

Rotting in Jail

It appears that a former West Palm Beach weatherman is going to be sitting in his jail cell until at least Fall as he waits for his court date.

It’s been a year since former WPTV-Channel 5 weatherman Rob Lopicola was arrested for allegedly having sex with at least two teenage boys near his West Palm Beach home — and he remains behind bars while awaiting a trial that keeps getting postponed!

While Lopicola’s day in court was originally scheduled for last December then June 24, it’s been pushed back yet again this week.

It’s now rescheduled for Oct. 21.

Lopicola, meanwhile, is rotting in the Palm Beach County lockup because he’s been unable to pay for his $110,000 bail.

First on The Scene

Screen Shot 2013-06-14 at 8.49.08 AM.png

Several dozen people were injured in the collapse of a crowded deck at the popular Shuckers Bar & Grill tonight in North Bay Village (just outside Miami).

The incident occurred as crowded the deck to watched the Miami Heat vs. San Antonio Spurs play their NBA Finals game.

The deck collapsed in the during the first half of the game. Many were thrown into Biscayne Bay about 10 feet below as the deck broke in half.

Some were rescued from the water by heroic bartenders and waiters at first, then by EMS crews.

WSVN in Miami was first on the scene. Which was no surprise, since the station was right next door and one of their directors was in the bar.

Look Who's Back in TV News

Screen Shot 2013-06-13 at 7.01.53 PM.png

Back in May, FTVLive told you about Jay Plyburn.

Plyburn was the reporter that quit his job  at Hearst Duop  KHBS-/ KHOG (Ft. Smith)  because he was sent out in bad weather to cover a storm.

Plyburn claims that he was sent out to cover possible tornado damage and he as he wrote in an email to his co-workers "lightning was striking all around us. This was the single most frightening experience of my life."

Then when he got back to the station, no one even took the time to say "thank you."

In his email, which also doubled as his resignation letter, Plyburn wrote "When the day was done and we finally got back to the station, it was business as usual. No managers had any sort of feedback...just a new list of things they wanted done."

He then use the email to say he would not be coming back into work and no story was worth losing his life over.

Plyburn has landed another another job and it is back in TV news. He will be the morning anchor across the street at KFSM.

We advised Plyburn to get out of the business altogether, but it appears that he did not take our advice.

Hopefully as an anchor, Plyburn will just stay inside the cushy studio all day and KFSM won't dare send him out on story where he might be in danger. And God knows, you better thank him when he gets back from the story!

All we can say is good luck Jay and don't shuffle those papers around to fast on the anchor desk. We don't want you to get a paper cut and end up quitting the station.

The Story Behind the Story

The Story Behind the Story

ack on June 6th, FTVLive told you about the woman that was arrested after a Providence news crew try to ask her questions about her daughter being shot at a graduation party.

Melisa Lawrence was busted for assaulting the news crew after throwing a rock at the camera, walking around with a baseball bat and then telling her two dogs to go after the Reporter.

In our story on June 6th we wrote: "Did the crew walk up to the woman,  ask her if she wanted to talk and she just started throwing rocks?

Remember, this woman's daughter had been recently shot. It is understandable that she might not want to talk to the media.

Well she is telling her story as to why she acted like she did. Read it after tghe jump.

Fox News Sued Over Airing Man's Suicide

Fox News Sued Over Airing Man's Suicide

Fox News is being sued, but we doubt it is case they will lose and they shouldn't.

The family of the man whose suicide Fox News accidentally aired is suing the network.

Last Fall, FNC was showing a high speed car chase in Arizona when driver JoDon Romero got out of his car and shot himself.

Fox was using a delay during the Chase, but human error caused the suicide to mak its way onto the air.

Shepard Smith, who was anchoring at the time, apologized profusely, saying, "We really messed up. And we're all very sorry."

Courthouse News Service reported that Angela Rodriguez, the mother of three of Romero's children, is suing the network and News Corp. in Maricopa County Court.
