Fresno Anchor "Retiring" after 30 Years

mike_lg.jpg

KGPE Anchor Mike Scott says that after 30 years, he is retiring from the station next week.

Although, no one will say, we're betting this has something to do with Nexstar taking over the station.

Scott's "retirement" comes just months after the purchase of KGPE and local NBC affiliate KSEE by Nexstar Broadcasting. Since the purchases, the stations have shared news reporters and have plans for operations to move under one roof.

"I had a great 30 years here and loved that people let me come into their homes," Scott said. "I always loved hearing that some people grew up with me."

When asked if Scott's departure had anything to do with the merger, Matt Rosenfeld, president and general manager for both stations, said: "Scott's retiring June 14."

Yeah that's it.... he's "Retiring"..... that's the ticket.

We're Moving in a Different Direction

jaquitta_williams_2013.jpg

Stations love to replace the two simple words of "Your Fired" to the more eloquent "We're moving in a different direction."

Either way, you are no longer getting a paycheck.

After 3 years at the station, WGCL (Atlanta) Anchor JaQuitta Williams was moved out the door.

Meteorologist Cris Martinez was also moved to the unemployment line as the station moves in a different direction.

WGCL General manager Trey Fabacher confirmed the departures, but declined to comment further.

Of course he didn't....

Orlando Police says Station's Report is Wrong

Orlando Police says Station's Report is Wrong

The Orlando Police Department says that a report done by WFTV Reporter Kathi Belich (pictured) is wrong, but the station says they are not going to issue a retraction on the story.

WFTV's Kathi Belich on Wednesday reported that a female officer had been fired.

Not so, police say.

Sgt. Rhonda Huckelbery, 48, has "continuous employment with OPD and is assigned to the Airport Division as a supervisor," Sgt. Jim Young wrote in a memo sent to the media.

Huckelbery is suing OPD and claims she was a victim of gender, age and disability discrimination.

Young blasted Belich's reporting on a story that was titled "Breast cancer survivor says she was fired from OPD because she wouldn't wear vest."

Belich "conducted this story as if the allegations themselves were fact," Young said. "Belich went on to state that 'OPD hasn't said why it is now waffling about the vest and her job, because it won't comment on pending litigation.' "

But not commenting on pending litigation is policy, Young said in an interview.

Dog Gone It.... What Happened?

Yesterday, FTVLIve told you about the Providence woman that was arrested for assault on a WLNE news crew.

Melissa Lawrence was busted by cops after Reporter Abbey Niezgoda and Photographer Marc Jackson showed up at the home and tried to interview her about her daughter getting shot over the weekend at a graduation party.

In the video of the story, Lawrence can be seen throwing a rock at the camera, walking around with a baseball bat and then telling her two dogs to go after the Reporter.

Luckily the news crew is ok, but you still have to wonder what the full story is?

Houston Station Says Sorry to Competitor

kprcstealing13_1_zpsa3f9543a.jpg

Yesterday, FTVLive told you that KPRC in Houston Tweeted pics of a traffic accident that they took off the air from KTRK.

Now KPRC says their sorry and are blaming it on someone that works outside the station.

KPRC GM Jerry Martin released this statement about the incident:

"The image was not ours to post. After investigating, we discovered it was tweeted by an employee of a third party company contracted to assist with our traffic presentation and the matter is being handled privately.

Post Newsweek Inc. has social media guidelines in place and just recently held staff meetings covering this exact topic. We will make sure to extend that training beyond PNS employees to anyone with the potential to post under our brand on any platform. It was an oversight on our end and we extend an apology to Channel 13."

KTRK had quickly used the incident to put together a promo about how KPRC turns to them for news.

Ouch!

Cat Fight Anchors Say It's All Good

KYW (Philly)  Anchor Nicole Brewer and meteorologist Carol Erickson say that despite what the video shows, they really do like each other.

So what about all the catty comments the two make to each other on the video?

They say they are just having some "fun."

"I [really] adore Nicole, but some crazy fun editing put out a totally unreal spin," CBS3 Philly meteorologist Carol Erickson tweeted to fans concerned about the video showing her being berated by weekend anchor Nicole Brewer.

"If you know @CarolCBS3 and me, you know there's only love between us. So, we're going to keep having fun," Brewer tweeted.

But Fox 29's Howard Eskin is calling "Bullshit!"I'm in biz. [that's] BS!" Eskin tweeted Brewer and Erickson, while referencing Brewer's earlier message about "only love between us."

"Nicole Brewer needs to give u respect," Eskin told Erickson.

Either way, the Philly Anchors are getting their 15 minutes and can now say they have gone viral on YouTube.

MSNBC Stays Away from Breaking News

Screen Shot 2013-06-06 at 6.18.41 AM.png

Shoppers filled a Philadelphia Salvation Army thrift store yesterday morning, unaware that an excavation crew ripping down walls at a gutted building next door was about to yank on the wrong beam with heavy machinery.

The building collapsed, 6 people were killed another 14 hurt....but you won't have known any of this if you were watching MSNBC.

The cable news network that admits they don't like news. for all intents ignored the building collapse and stayed with their regular programing.

CNN and Fox News both went wall to wall with coverage of the tragic accident.

If you're looking for information on big stories like this as MNBC Boss Phil Griffin says "We’re not the place for that."

Pelley Celebrates 2 Years in The Chair

Pelley Celebrates 2 Years in The Chair

Scott Pelley took over as the Anchor of The CBS Evening News Two years ago and his ratings have gone nowhere but up.

In May, "CBS Evening News" gained 490,000 viewers. That's the largest gain for any network's evening newscast in more than a decade. During the two seasons since Pelley took over as anchor and managing editor, the gain is 720,000 viewers.

"Two years ago, Jeff Fager [chairman of CBS News] said, 'Look, make the Evening News like '60 Minutes,'" Pelley said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "'Tell hard news, tell us what happened in the world today. Tell it clearly, concisely and honestly, and the audience will come.' I desperately wanted to believe that was true. And since Jeff put me in this job, he was clearly putting all of our money on that prospect."

OMG! Is That the President?!

Screen Shot 2013-06-06 at 6.59.43 AM.png

WJZ (Baltimore) Anchor Kai Jackson was at the White House yesterday reporting on the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens’ visit with President Obama.

The gathered crowd at the gate apparently mistook Jackson for President Obama and started to scream and shout.

At that point, Jackson got a fleeting taste of what it must be like to be Obama. You know....minus the IRS, DOJ scandals and all.
