Dropping a Mother F#@ker for Sweeps

Dropping a Mother F#@ker for Sweeps

KGUN in Tucson had a story of an elderly woman that was the victim of a home invasion robbery.

But, it looked like the thugs picked the wrong woman to rob. The old lady was not afraid of the bad guys and she didn't mind dropping a few F-bombs on them, or on KGUN's newscast.

The old broad threw down a "motherfucker".

The story was on tape, but someone forget to edit out the salty language and it was clear as day when it hit the air.

The video, followed by the station's apology after the jump.

Former Anchor Now Reads Poetry Instead of News

Former Anchor Now Reads Poetry Instead of News

Rob Morrison used read the news on WCBS in New York.

Now the disgraced former anchor says he starts off his day reading the inspirational Rudyard Kipling poem “If” daily to himself.

“I read that every single morning when I wake up and it helps ... put things in perspective,” Morrison told the NY Daily News.

Morrison, who was fired....errrrr.....quit his high-profile post on WCBS in February after he was charged with choking and threatening to kill his wife, CBS MoneyWatch anchor Ashley Morrison, said he has also turned for solace to charity work and the woeful Mets as he tries to put his life back together.

But, it's clear the guy still has issues. More after the bounce.

KCCI Morning Anchor Katie Ward said she is leaving the station to...say it with me..."spend more time with her family".

News Director Dave Busiek said Ward is leaving to take care of her two children, a 3 year old and a 15 month old.

Busiek said Ward will leave "sometime this summer" and that her departure has been discussed for some time. "We've already started looking" for a new morning anchor to join Steve Karlin, he said.

Ward has been with KCCI since March 2006 and became the morning anchor in August 2010.

Female Anchors Sleeveless Trend

Female Anchors Sleeveless Trend

The latest trend for female news anchors is to ditch the sleeves.

And not everyone is liking it.

Slate writes that the female newscaster of today does sexy in a very specific way. It is sleeveless sexy, an age-defying, loose-skin-defying means of telling the world that she worked out this morning and every morning, long before she went to hair and makeup and started broadcasting the nation’s news, long before viewers even considered waking up.

New Hampshire Shuts Down News Department

New Hampshire Shuts Down News Department

WBIN in Concord, New Hampshire put on such a lousy news product that they finally just gave up.

The broadcast a newscast Friday night at 10PM, on Monday it wasn't there.

The station refused to even comment on them pulling the plug on the newscast.

“There are strategic decisions regarding programming that we don’t discuss,” said Periklis Karoutas, the company’s vice president of political affairs and public relations.

That's good, yank the news and then refuse to discuss it. What a joke of a station.

Palm Beach Reporter Caught up in the Current

Palm Beach Reporter Caught up in the Current

We're guessing you can call this the new version of Current TV.

Instead of standing on the shore and telling viewers how dangerous rip currents can be, WPTV (West Palm Beach) Reporter Ryan Calhoun decided to do some "look at me TV".

Calhoun wadded into the ocean waters and into a rip current that pulled him out to deeper waters.

He was with a lifeguard when he did it and it's a good thing. He needed the lifeguard to help him out.

It's May Sweeps can you tell.

Denver Station Shows the Ease of Buying Guns

Denver Station Shows the Ease of Buying Guns

KDVR in Denver is breaking with sweeps tradition and doing some actual reporting.

Instead of doing some stunt on where their former anchors are or swimming around in the ocean, the station is looking at the gun laws.

Reporter Josh Bernstein went undercover to a Babies “R” Us parking lot to buy a very adult toy: an Uzi.

“I mean the beauty of this gun is it’s pretty well-balanced when you’re holding it with two hands,” the unidentified seller told Bernstein.

In just hours, Bernstein was able to obtain several high-powered guns from private sellers in Denver-area parking lots...

More on the story, plus video of the report after the skip.

May Sweeps Car Chase

May Sweeps Car Chase

The News Gods looked down from the heavens and gave the LA stations what they crave for the ratings book.

A car chase.

Some "rocket scientist" thought that he would be able to outrun the LAPD in a van. The LA stations were all over the coverage with their news choppers.

The cops threw down some spike strips and the van's tires were ruined. The suspect bailed and started to run of foot.

He was running pretty damn fast until he hit a wet spot, slipped and the cops were all over him.

Listen to the anchors as they cover the chase. It's a car chase in LA, even they can't get excited anymore.

Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 6.38.05 AM.png

WCTI in New Bern, NC has a job opening for a Producer #2

We're not sure what a Producer #2 does, but from reading the job description, it sounds very much like what a regular news producer does.

WCTI says in the description "Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): building newscast rundowns, writing stories with accuracy and clarity and editing video.Qualified candidates will have creative writing skills, strong attention to detail and be able to stay calm under pressure."

No mention if with hard work you can move up to Producer # 1. Also, no word if Producer # 1 is your boss.

We have no clue what a Producer # 2 is...but let's hope it doesn't have anything to do with this.

Here's a link to the job ad if you want to apply.

NBC Begs Viewers to Dump the DVR

NBC Begs Viewers to Dump the DVR

NBC wants viewers to watch their favorite NBC shows (if anyone has a favorite NBC show anymore) live and not to record it on their DVR.

At least for the May Sweeps.

The NY Daily News writes that for the past week, the Peacock Network has been promoting its shows with the puzzling tag line “Watch it live!”

At first it seemed like NBC was living on the edge, preparing to broadcast parts of its prime-time schedule the way it did during TV’s golden age more than 60 years ago — live from the studio.

Such was not the case, although for strictly selfish reasons... Find out those reasons after the leap.

CNN Sees Ratings Rise in Prime Time....But....

Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 6.08.26 AM.png

With the April ratings CNN was up 80 percent in Prime Time.

Sounds like it is making huge gains, but then you remember that the Boston Marathon bombings happened in April and you can figure out why the Prime Time climb.

Fox News also got a bump in Prime Time (although just 9%) and to no ones surprise they won the April ratings averaging 2 million viewers.

CNN came in with 920,000 and MSNBC with 686,000.

MSNBC was the only cable net to fall in Prime Time. The network that has no real journalists on staff during the Prime Time hours, lost their way during the bombing coverage. Their PT numbers fell 10 percent.

The O'Reilly Factor was once again the king of cable news setting the pace with 3.1 million viewers.

LA Station Makes 5 Hires

ktla-logo.jpg

You may remember a couple of days ago, FTVLive told you that Jillian Barberie was about land a new gig.

Now we know where.

It's KTLA and Barberie wasn't the only hire the station made.

KTLA News Director Jason Ball announced that along with Barbeire, the station has also hired former Fox Anchor Courtney Friel,  Steve Kuzj and Kimberly Cheng who both worked at KNVX News in Phoenix.  Also, Olsen Ebright who was with NBC Southern California.

That's a lot of hires and all in one day.
