After nearly four decades, Denver broadcasting veteran Ron Zappolo, acknowledged dean of local sports journalism, respected anchor and self-described "old-school" news guy, will retire from Fox31 on April 5. He's walking away from the job in order to "reinvent myself one more time."
For years, Zappolo has ranked at the top of the Denver market's "Q scores," those measurements of personality used in contract and salary negotiations that usually pit him against 9News' Adele Arakawa as the town's most positively recognized anchor.
He got there by sheer force of will and a knack for performing. His distinctive cadence —partly a holdover from his native Boston — makes him easy to listen to; his passion translates as down-to-earth; his engagement with the camera marks him as a guy who belongs on the tube.
"You have to perform the material. You have to sell it," he said.

According to the latest Nielsen ratings, based on a February survey, the station’s newscasts at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. are the most-watched in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

"I sleep in the mornings. I would be the wrong person for any morning show. I don’t know if they know my number," The Fox News Anchor said to the Orlando Sentinel. "If 'Today' were late afternoon, maybe."
He says he's thrilled to continue with "Fox Report," which has finished No. 1 at 7 p.m. in cable news for 50 consecutive quarters.

That's what one Tampa station is trying starting Monday.
WFLA News Channel 8 islooking for the best recipe to increase audience numbers, is juggling the time slots of some late-morning programs.
Beginning Monday, talk show “Daytime” will air at 10, followed by entertainment magazine “Extra” at 11 and a newscast anchored by Natalie Shepherd (pictured) at 11:30.
Shepherd’s newscast replaces the 10 a.m. show anchored by Gayle Guyardo and Rod Carter.

Do you wish there was an App that would let you know when you are about to be fired?
Well there is!
The app “Fire Me!” tracks your Twitter account for tweets aimed at how much you dislike your job or boss. It even sends you updates when it thinks you are close to being fired, only after aggregating tweets that include curse words along with the words “kill,” “boss,” “job” or any other potentially problematic phrase.
The app also comes with a “FireMeter” that rates how close you are to being fired, and includes a “leaderboard” where users rank amongst other job-haters.

Rafferty's attorneys, David Webbert and Matthew Keegan, filed the lawsuit on his behalf in Cumberland County Superior Court on Feb. 15. The station has yet to be served with official notice and has not yet responded to the lawsuit, which claims disability and age discrimination.
