Seattle Station Stays with Local News

When word filtered down about the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, KIRO and KOMO dropped their local Sunday morning newscasts to take the network coverage.

It was THE story that viewers were interested in and it's hard for a local station to cover it from 3000 miles away. Both stations made the right call.

But, Tegna owned KING in Seattle stayed with local news and continued to run commercial breaks. One insider said they station stayed local so they could make money on the spots sold.

This was not the time or place to try and cash in. KING did their viewers a disservice by not going to the network. It would be interesting to see how many viewers tuned out, once they realized what was happening in Florida.
