The Retirement is Over

When Scott Diener announced that he was retiring from his News Director job at KMOV in St. Louis last summer, he said, “I lost my three siblings (two brothers and a sister) and my mother. Being the sole survivor of a family unit (my dad unexpectedly passed away 24 years ago this month) makes you put everything in to perspective,” he wrote. “Family. Friends. Health.”

He was leaving the industry for his family.

But, now he seems to have changed his mine.

Next week, Diener starts his new job as general manager of KOMU. He will be only the fourth general manager of the Missouri School of Journalism’s NBC-affiliate TV station in the last 50 years.

“My intention is to be present,” he said. “As a leader, I’ll be talking to everyone. There is nothing like KOMU anywhere in the country, and the ability to lead a team that is educating the next generation in a real-world learning lab is exciting to me. At the same time, we have to be the provider of the best, most accurate content on all platforms. We have to be involved in the community.”

What about his family and friends? I guess they’ll be fine.
