ToldJa! Scripps to Sack Hundreds

FTVLive told you in a Patron-only story that Scripps was going to swing the axe, yet again.

After we posted the story, a memo went out to Scripps employees telling them that nearly 300 people will lose their jobs.

The company says it will go to a 24/7 streaming model in their smaller markets first and then roll it out to all the Scripps markets.

The new Scripps way will not stack news, like a seasoned producer would do. But instead, it will just throw stories out as they are finished and loaded into the system.

It will be like reading a book, where you just open the book to a random page and when you’re done with that page, you close the book, open it to another random page and read that page.

It is a stupid way to read a book and it will be a stupid way to produce a newscast. But you know what? It will be cheaper than having a real producer stack the show.

This will mean Scripps can get rid of producers, directors, and production people.

Scripps CEO Adam Symson calls it the future, we call it crap.

In the end, hundreds of Scripps employees will lose their jobs, but somehow Symson keeps his.

Unbelievable.
