Even The Right Thinks Trump's FCC is Crossing the Line

When Donald Trump’s FCC Chairman Brendan Carr started targeting ABC and Disney, he probably expected a round of applause from his conservative base.

Instead, even right-wing media groups are now stepping up to tell him to pump the brakes.

According to a report by Reason, a coalition of 14 conservative and free-market organizations—including Americans for Tax Reform and the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste—sent a letter to Carr urging the FCC to show restraint when it comes to reviewing broadcast licenses.

Back in April, the FCC announced an "investigation" into ABC and Disney over alleged "unlawful discrimination." As part of that, the FCC decided to yank open Disney’s broadcast licenses for early review—even though none of them were actually set to expire until at least 2028.

It was a blatant power move designed to intimidate a major network. And while conservative groups are usually all for sticking it to the mainstream media, they aren't blind to the precedent this sets.

In their letter to Carr, the coalition warned that dragging network licenses into political fights creates a dangerous weapon—one that a future Democratic FCC could easily turn right back on conservative broadcasters.

"Our concern is that establishing precedents of non-routine renewal creates a powerful lever that future FCCs—including ones hostile to conservative, religious, or otherwise disfavored broadcasters—would be all too willing to pull," the groups wrote.

Even MAGA-favorite Sen. Ted Cruz previously slammed Carr’s heavy-handed tactics against ABC as "unbelievably dangerous."
