Market 7 Just 2 Years Out of School

There used to be a time when being two years out of college meant you might get an interview to work in the mailroom at a powerhouse station like KPRC in Houston.

Times have certainly changed.

Ajay Patel is joining the Graham Media Group station in Houston as its newest reporter.

"All smiles over here, I am excited to announce that I am joining the @kprc2 team in Houston as their newest reporter," Patel posted on social media. "Grateful for everyone’s support to get me here. Everything’s bigger in Texas!"

Patel spent the last two years as an MMJ at WLEX in Lexington, which was his first job after graduating from Temple University in 2024.

He interned in Philly and when you still have your internship on your resume, you’re not supposed be landing a job in a top 10 market.

Landing in Market 7 just 24 months after grabbing his diploma shows how hungry big-market stations are for talent these days—and how quickly green reporters can skip the traditional market-climbing ladder.
