ABC Moving Affiliates in St. Louis
/While the big news was that Nexstar is losing the CBS affiliation in several markets, there is also news with ABC.
The Mickey Mouse network announced that they are moving from Sinclair’s KDNL to Gray-owned KMOV’s sub-channel.
To be honest, the Sinclair station in St. Louis has basically been an afterthought for years. The station does not have a news department and not much of an identity in the market.
KMOV claims that they will be expanding news in St. Louis, now that they are adding the ABC affiliation to their stable. “This is a landmark moment for St. Louis viewers and a testament to our commitment to local journalism,” said KMOV General Manager JD Sosnoff. “By bringing ABC programming to KMOV, we are not only expanding entertainment options but, more importantly, delivering vital local news and public service to a community that has been underserved in this area. KMOV’s award-winning news team is uniquely positioned to provide the high-quality, local coverage that St. Louis families deserve.”
So, will KMOV hire a bunch more people in the newsroom to help this expansion?
My prediction is no. I would be surprised if they add more than one or two people and I wouldn’t be surprised if they added no one.
These days, expanded news is just doing more with less.
Stay tuned….
