Trump Uses the "T-Word" (Again) to Attack Journalists Doing Their Jobs
/Once again, Donald Trump is targeting the media for committing the ultimate "crime" in his eyes: reporting the facts.
In what has become a tired, recurring rerun, Trump lashed out yesterday at journalists covering the ongoing war, escalating his rhetoric by tossing around the word "treason."
While speaking to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Trump pushed back hard on accurate, truthful reporting about the conflict. Instead of addressing the reality of the situation, he took aim at the messengers.
“The fake news would rather see us lose the war than win the war, which is really treasonous, which is really treasonous in a certain way,” Trump told Collins.
But he wasn't done there. Earlier in the day, Trump went on a similar, highly defensive rant during an appearance on Fox & Friends. This time, his target was The New York Times, which he labeled "sick" for its coverage of the war.
“I actually think it’s treasonous,” he added.
Let's be incredibly clear: it is not.
No matter how many times Trump uses the word, reporting facts, holding power accountable, and delivering the truth to the American public is not "treason." It is the fundamental job of a free press—and it is protected by the First Amendment.
When a politician tries to reframe standard, accurate journalism as a betrayal of the country, they aren't protecting the nation. They are trying to silence the people keeping it informed.
