Back Home to Sacramento

CBS-owned KOVR/KMAX in Sacramento is bringing a familiar face back to town to run the weather department.

Jennifer Stanonis has been named the new Chief Meteorologist for CBS Sacramento, with an official start date set for July 27.

Stanonis is returning to her hometown market after spending a significant chunk of her career out East. She most recently wrapped up her second stint in Buffalo, New York, where she served as the main weekday evening meteorologist for Tegna’s WGRZ. Her resume also includes stops at WKBW in Buffalo and KCWY in Casper, Wyoming.

"Jennifer is one of the most respected meteorologists in the industry, with a proven track record of helping communities navigate severe and rapidly changing weather conditions," said Scott Warren, regional president and general manager of CBS Bay Area and CBS Sacramento, checking off the standard corporate quote boxes.

Stanonis holds a meteorology degree from SUNY College at Brockport, a broadcasting degree from San Francisco State University, and carries the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal.

Management is hoping her local roots and extensive track record in severe weather will help steady the ship in a market known for brutal wildfire seasons and extreme heatwaves.
