As you know, the hostage standoff in Bakersfield, CA was a big story.

The 15-hour hostage situation in downtown Bakersfield ended safely early Wednesday, June 3, 2026, when the FBI shot and killed the suspect. All 10 hostages, who were employees of the Kern County superintendent of schools, were rescued unharmed.

While TV stations and networks covered the story, it was the streamers who stayed with the news wall to wall. It wasn’t long after the stand off started that the streamers were taking over the story.

“Sadly, another example of how streamers are delivering news cheaper and faster than TV news,” said one California Journalist to FTVLive.

Some of the streamers had news tickers and even sponsors.

Citizen Journalist are showing that they can do better at Live and Late Breaking, than many TV stations.
