Why a San Francisco Anchor Has been Missing From the Air
/This story is heartbreaking as well as showing just how bad the health insurance is in our country. James Fletcher has worked Nexstar’s KRON for more than 20 years and is currently the weekday morning anchor.
Fletcher has been away from the desk for several weeks and viewers have been wondering why? He has now decided to share his heartbreaking story and why he is living every parent's worst nightmare.
Fletcher reached out to his KRON4 news team to open up about the crisis gripping his family. Earlier this month, his son, Collin Fletcher, was admitted to the hospital after suffering what Fletcher describes as a “sudden, unexplained neurological crisis.” Within a matter of hours, Collin tragically lost the ability to move his legs, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.
While trying to navigate the devastating medical mystery and process the emotional toll of seeing his son paralyzed, Fletcher has also had to face the brutal reality of the American healthcare and insurance systems. Instead of being allowed to focus entirely on his son's healing, the long-time anchor has had to fight tooth and nail behind the scenes just to secure the necessary medical coverage, treatments, and approvals for Collin's care.
Fletcher has stepped away from the KRON4 anchor desk indefinitely to become a full-time medical advocate for his son."James is taking this time now to advocate for his son, focusing on getting him the best treatment and being there for his family," his co-workers shared during a recent on-air update.
His colleagues at the San Francisco station expressed their overwhelming support for the veteran journalist, describing him as "the most genuinely kind-hearted person you could ever hope to meet and work with." While the road ahead is a long and challenging journey toward recovery, his KRON4 family and viewers are standing firmly alongside him.
Fletcher is currently sharing periodic updates and health information regarding Collin's ongoing battle on his personal Facebook and Instagram pages.
