Signing Off in Bean Town
/For more than two decades, a familiar face on Boston television has been a staple in the living rooms of New England. Now, longtime anchor Mark Ockerbloom is stepping away, marking the end of a remarkable four-decade career in broadcasting.
Ockerbloom has spent the last 22 years at WFXT-TV, better known to locals as Boston 25 News. Owned by Cox Media Group, the station has long served as a vital voice in the community, and Ockerbloom has been at the very center of its coverage since his arrival in 2004. Throughout his tenure, he has been a trusted source of news, earning a reputation for his deep integrity, steadfast professionalism, and unwavering connection with his viewers.
During his time behind the anchor desk, Ockerbloom has guided the community through some of the region's most significant and challenging moments. From covering the Boston Marathon bombings to the capture of infamous crime boss Whitey Bulger, he has delivered essential updates during times of crisis. His career has also mirrored the unmatched sports culture of Boston, covering countless Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, and Stanley Cup playoffs.
Reflecting on his journey, Ockerbloom noted the special significance of working in the area where he was raised. As a kid who grew up in the nearby town of Winchester, he described the opportunity to work in his home market as the thrill of a lifetime. After an impressive career highlighted by four New England Emmy Awards and the prestigious Silver Circle Award presented by the New England chapter in 2025, Ockerbloom says it is time to turn the page and focus on spending more time with his family.
Todd Brown, the Vice President and General Manager of the Cox-owned station, emphasized that Ockerbloom’s dedication to impactful journalism and the community has set a standard that will continue to inspire the newsroom. News Director Scott Isaacs echoed those sentiments, calling it a privilege to work alongside someone who brought so much compassion and credibility to the craft of storytelling every single day.
Viewers and colleagues alike will have the opportunity to celebrate his legacy when his final on-air broadcast takes place on May 15.
