Consolidation

When DuJuan McCoy’s Circle City Broadcasting took over WRTV (Indianapolis), just about everyone in the WRTV newsroom was laid off.

It was all about consolidation and cost-cutting. And, if you at a station getting bought up, or might be getting sold, McCoy’s quote should serve as a warning to you,

“Just because you were employed at a company that I purchased does not guarantee you immediate employment with me,” said DuJuan McCoy, the president and CEO of Circle City Broadcasting, during an interview on a WISH-TV podcast, part of the CW network affiliate. “You have to go through the process, and you have to compete for a job just like everybody else has to compete for a job.”

That's right.

Forget your years of seniority. Forget your dedication to your station.

To the suits in the corporate office, you're just another cog in the machine that will need to prove its worth when the time comes.

Although, I would argue that the employees at WRTV were given no opportunity to "compete" for their roles as McCoy claimed.

Be advised, this is how little these companies really value their workers. It is all about shareholders.
