The Scripps Greed

Scripps is in a retransmission pissing match with DirecTV and they are not above using their newsrooms websites to post propaganda.

The above is from Scripps-owned WFTS in Tampa.

What Scripps is not saying is the fact that they are demanding DirecTV pay them more money than they are currently paying to air their station.

This all despite the fact that WFTS is not offering a better news product than they did under the previous contract. The station has laid off staff, records newscasts, and has gotten rid of talent people. So, why should the viewers who use DirecTV be forced to pay even more money for an inferior product?

The station writes on their website, “WFTS - Tampa Bay 28 and DirecTV are currently in negotiations to renew our programming agreement. While we are working hard to reach a fair deal, DirecTV – a multi‑billion‑dollar corporation that controls programming distribution for millions of Americans – may remove Tampa Bay 28's trusted, locally produced news, along with key sports and entertainment programming from its channel lineup.”

Again, what they don’t say is that they are demanding more money per subscriber. If you live in the Tampa market and say you NEVER watch WFTS. You don’t watch their programming, their newscasts, nothing. The station still wants you to pay them, if you are a DirecTV subscriber, even though you never turn on the station.

Is that the “fair deal,” that they are talking about?
