Former Anchor Sentenced to Life In Prison

Angie Mock spent years delivering the top stories to television viewers across the Midwest. On Monday, the former news anchor became the headline herself, sentenced to life in prison for the brutal killing of her 80-year-old mother.

Mock was handed the sentence in a Sedgwick County, Kansas courtroom after pleading guilty to first-degree murder. Under the terms of the sentence, she will serve life behind bars with no eligibility for parole for 25 years.

Before her life took a dark and tragic turn, Mock was a familiar face in television newsrooms, most notably serving as a morning anchor and reporter at KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015.

The case sent shockwaves through both the local community and the broadcasting industry. According to investigators, police responded to a Wichita home where they discovered Mock's 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, suffering from multiple fatal stab wounds. Mock was found outside the residence with injuries to her hands.

The legal proceedings were heavily complicated by mental health evaluations. Court records revealed a history of severe psychiatric struggles, including an initial ruling that declared Mock mentally incompetent to stand trial. However, following psychiatric treatment and a reversal of the competency ruling in July, Mock ultimately entered a guilty plea, bringing a definitive and tragic close to a stunning fall from grace for a former television journalist.
