The Consolidated News in Louisville

Starting today, Gray-owned WAVE/WDRB will be combined into one news operation.

WAVE’s owner Gray had purchased WDRB and has now merged the news departments. The staff at WDRB have been moved over to WAVE.

The station is now bragging that they have built “the regions largest news team”. Actually, they merged two newsrooms into one.

Many of the newscasts will be simulcast on both channels, meaning the viewers aren’t getting more news, they’re just getting the same news twice.

The station says that morning newscast will feature 9 talent on the show, during the 5 1/2 hours of news.

In a press release, General Manager Jay Heit said, “The journalists at WDRB and WAVE live here and recognize the responsibility they have to the community.”

Imagine that, people who work in the newsroom actually live in the community.

It sounds like a joke, but as more companies, like Sinclair, produce and anchor newscasts from out of market, I guess having your Journalists living in the community they cover, is now promotable.

The sad reality of today’s TV news.
