After 20 Years, He Gets Promoted

After Cecily Tynan signed off in August, WPVI didn't have to look far to find its next chief meteorologist.

The ABC O&O has named 20-year "Action News" veteran Adam Joseph as its new chief meteorologist. Joseph steps into the role following Tynan's retirement, moving up from his previous post as weekday senior meteorologist for the station's 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts.

"Adam is a beloved figure in the region’s broadcasting community and a viewer favorite," said John W. Morris, WPVI-TV general manager. "His enthusiasm and dedication to forecasting, authenticity and ability to clearly explain complex weather systems have made him a trusted voice across the region and a clear choice to step into this role."

Joseph originally joined WPVI in 2005 as a weekend meteorologist before transitioning to weekday and primetime weather. Over the last two decades, he has become a staple of local television in Philadelphia, anchoring coverage for major station traditions like the 6abc Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Philadelphia Flower Show, and the Auto Show, alongside guest appearances on ABC's Good Morning America.

Before making the jump to Philadelphia, Joseph served as chief meteorologist at WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and later worked at WSAZ-TV in Charleston-Huntington, where he earned his AMS Seal of Approval.
