Back on the Air in The Land
/Veteran News Anchor Wayne Dawson officially returned to the air this morning at WJW, the Nexstar-owned station in Cleveland.
Dawson had been away from the anchor desk for more than a year while battling cancer. On Monday, Jan. 5, he resumed his duties anchoring the 6 a.m., 7 a.m., and 8 a.m. hours alongside longtime co-anchor Stefani Schaefer.
Dawson announced a diagnosis of oral cancer in 2024. Following chemotherapy and surgery, he announced in May 2025 that he had been declared cancer-free.
Regarding his return to the morning newscast, Dawson credited his recovery to his faith.
"I am evidence that God heals, and I am just so happy to be back," Dawson said. "I just think the Lord has used me just to be a witness and let people know that God heals, and I believe He used me as that instrument."
Dawson added that he will continue with routine check-ups moving forward.
