The Replacement in Chicago
/Last week, FTVLive told you that WMAQ had parted ways with Sports Director Mike Berman.
Now, the NBC O&O has officially named his replacement.
Veteran Chicago sports anchor Lou Canellis is joining NBC 5 as the station’s main sports anchor, starting today.
Canellis will anchor sports segments Monday through Thursday at 5, 6, and 10 p.m., as well as Sundays at 5 and 10 p.m. He is also set to host the station’s weekly show, Sports Sunday, at 10:30 p.m.
“Lou has established himself as one of the most respected and beloved voices in Chicago sports media history,” said Sally Ramirez, Senior Vice President of News. “His knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm are second to none.”
Canellis, an Oak Lawn native, framed the move as a return to his roots.
“As a Chicago kid... I told my dad my dream was to be a household name in my hometown,” Canellis said. “The chance to work with Chicago TV legends such as Allison Rosati, Stefan Holt, Brant Miller and Chuck Goudie... is like joining the best All-Star team in any sport.”
