New News Boss in the A-T-L

Todd Spessard has been appointed the new director of content (News Director) for WXIA, the Tengs-owned NBC affiliate. He will begin his new role on September 3, overseeing all news operations for the station.

Spessard moves to Atlanta from WCNC, Tengas NBC affiliate in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was the news director. While at WCNC, he managed the expansion of the station's streaming news service, WCNC+, which produces more than 90 hours of live programming each week.

His career in broadcast journalism spans more than three decades. Before his time in Charlotte, Spessard was the vice president of content at Griffin Media in Oklahoma City. His previous news leadership positions include roles at KWTV in Oklahoma City, KOKI and KJRH in Tulsa, KSNW in Wichita, and KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri. He started his career as an anchor and producer in Kearney, Nebraska.

"Todd brings forward-thinking leadership that will drive our efforts to expand our digital presence," said Kristie Gonzales, president and general manager at WXIA. "His strategic vision will help us deliver content across all our platforms that furthers our mission to tell stories and share solutions that make life better for Atlanta."

Spessard will be responsible for the station's overall content strategy, talent acquisition, and editorial guidance.

"I'm excited to join the talented team at 11Alive," said Spessard. "After three decades in this business, I know how important it is to connect with viewers, whether on broadcast TV or streaming. I’m looking forward to working with the team in Atlanta to build on what they have already accomplished and find new ways to serve the community."
