A Smaller Pond...
/Earlier this week, FTVLive told you how WDBJ (Roanoke) Weekend Sports Reporter Kaitlin Wadulack announced that she is leaving the station and heading to KPLC in Lake Charles La. In doing so she is going from market 70 to market 177.
We pointed out that making a move to a smaller market might have been a wise choice.
One FTVLive reader, agrees, and they made a similar move and said it paid off.

Hey Scott!
Just wanted to add some additional thoughts to your post on July 29 about a sports anchor moving to a smaller market for more opportunity.
I had a very similar experience with limited air-time. I can tell you that dropping markets 100% changed the course of my career, and my life.
I worked in a very tiny market around 2010 and left for a top-40 market a few years later. After several years at the top-40 shop I was at a crossroads. The most interest I had at the time was from a station in the low-80s. So many people told me that it would be detrimental to my career aspirations to go there. That could not be further from the truth.
I am in a dream situation that allows me to spend more time with my family, grow my career, make good money and live the best life I’ve truly ever had. I’m living my own dream and I get to help young journalists grow and thrive.
My work is rewarding, I don’t plan on leaving, and I surely will never look back. Dropping market sizes was the best career decision I ever made.
In this business, I’ve found that happiness is so much more important than anything else.
Thanks for listening!
