The East Coast Bias..

We got an email from a reader who pointed out what many of us already know. The East Coast bias when it comes to news organizations is very much in play.

The temps can hit the high 90’s or even 100 in Columbus, Ohio and you’ll see basically nothing on the network news or cable. But, it the hot weather hits New York City, it will be team coverage for hours.

It’s the same thing with snowstorms, rain events and even shootings.

This is the email from an FTVLive reader.

Is it just me, or has the coverage of the NYC mass shooting been completely over the top in contrast to the OTHER mass shooting the same day in Reno, which resulted in multiple deaths as well? Cable news is doing long segments every hour on "the latest" on the NYC shooter, the investigation at his home in Nevada, profiles of all the victims, bringing in their retired-NYPD crime analyst expert to dissect every minute detail... but the Reno shooting has received almost no on-air coverage since the NYC one happened and even the updates posted online are just a few paragraphs. Couldn't have anything to do with one occurring a short walk away from all the network news operations, right? (Even though virtually every one has made repeated references to that fact on their broadcasts for some reason...)

Sincerely, a guy out West.
