Fired in Florida?

Here is an interesting story from the Sunshine State.

Below is the agenda for this week’s meeting of the Bay County Tourist Development Council in Panama City Beah.

Look at the item I highlighted.

The item was disgusting a website, saying, “Discuss and consider for approval PCBweather.com Project, Mr. Dan Rowe, Mr. Chris Smith and Mr. Dan Nyman (CVB).”

Chris Smith has spent the past 16 years as the Chief Met at WJHG (Panama City Beach).

Dan Nyman, also listed on the agenda, is also a Meteorologist at WJGH.

It appears that the two Mets at the Gray station are looking to start a website which provides forecasts to the residents in Panama City.

An insider tells FTVLive that, “At the meeting, WJHG GM Ulysses Carlini stood up and spoke out against the project. It looks like they're starting their own weather service that involves them selling ads directly to businesses.”

The same day as the public meeting, WJHG posted a job opening for a full-time meteorologist.

Also, Nyman and Smith’s bios were scrubbed from the station’s website.

Seeing all the cuts in weather departments and the rubbing out of weather reports, maybe Nyman and Smith were just hedging their bets and looking for a side gig in case the axe was swung their way.

I’m not sure how this is going to play out, but we’ll keep an eye on it.
