Market 34 Straight Out Of College

This is a good example of where this business is right now….

Victoria Anderson hasn’t even graduated from college yet and she has already landed a job in a top 40 market.

First, congratulations to Anderson for landing her first job. I don’t fault her at all for taking the job.

She is headed to Tegna’s WTIC in Hartford as an MSJ.

There was a time when the Hartford market was packed with experienced Journalist and many jumped from Hartford to the New York City market.

Now, Tegna is hiring kids, still in school in the 34th market.

Tegna has many stations in smaller markets and if they actually cared about Anderson and her career, they would have been wise to start her out in a smaller market.

There, she could make her mistakes and learn more before being thrown into the deep end of the pool.

Also, if you’re a kid in college, why take a job in Waco, or Duluth, when you can jump to the top 4o before you even graduate?

I would love to see what Tegna is paying Anderson at WTIC, because I will bet the house, they lowballed her when it came to salary.

As I said, I don’t blame Anderson for taking the job, but I sure blame Tegna for offering it.
