That's a Hell of a Run

Veteran news anchor Liz Bishop, a familiar face on Capital Region television for over five decades, has announced her retirement from WRGB (Albany), a Sinclair-owned station. Bishop's departure marks the end of a significant chapter in local broadcast journalism, with her final newscast set to conclude an extraordinary career.

Bishop's tenure in Albany began in 1973 at the station then known as CBS6, while she was a student at the University at Albany. Initially hired as a weekend sportscaster, a groundbreaking role for a woman at the time, Bishop quickly demonstrated her talent and versatility. Over the years, she tackled a wide range of assignments, establishing herself as one of the most respected and recognizable journalists in the Capital Region.

Born and raised in the Albany area, Bishop cultivated a deep connection with viewers through her relentless pursuit of truth and unwavering dedication to community-focused reporting, qualities that have defined her long career.

"Liz’s impact on our station and this community is certainly historic,” said News Director Stone Grissom. “Her career exemplifies the mark of a trailblazer. While we will miss her deeply, we celebrate everything she has accomplished and the legacy she leaves behind.
