Almost Old Enough to Drink

YouTube just turned 20 years old and it has come a long way since it first launched.

How far?

Last years, YouTube brought in $55 Billion dollars. That makes it the second largest media company, behind only Walt Disney.

As someone that worked their adult life in television, I can tell you that I haven’t watched television or local TV news in years. But, I watch YouTube everyday.

I’m also was an early user of YouTube. The site turns 20 years old and I have been on YouTube for over 19 years of those 20.

Looking at my stats, I only uploaded 169 videos in the past two decades. But, those videos have accumulated nearly 8 million views.

I have never monetized my channel and I have gone months without posting any videos. But, some former Journalists have moved over to YouTube and have made a living.

YouTube certainly has a brighter future than TV news. Maybe it’s time you start your channel, or at least take it more serious.
