Scripps Swings the Ax in Buffalo
/Scripps continues to drive the Pink Slip Express around the country and put good working people out of a job.
At WKBW in Buffalo, word is that around 10 people were told that they will be out of a job.
At least two of those who were cut are on-air talent, including Anchor Lia Lando and Meteorologist Mary Beth Wrobel.
We also hear that an Assignment Editor and a Photographer were part of the cuts.
WKBW Station Manager LeAnne Markins might have given the single worst quote ever from a manager at a TV station. In talking about the cuts, Markins said, “While difficult, these changes are part of the commitment from WKBW and our parent company, Scripps, to adapt through this unprecedented time, and ensure we can continue our mission of serving Western New York with high-quality, community-focused journalism for years to come.”
Huh?
You put people out of work and claim it is “…part of the commitment from WKBW and our parent company, Scripps…”
Laying people off is not a “commitment” from the station or the company. It is a move that you make when you have failed as managers and you make others pay for it.
