Calling it Quits in Albuquerque
/Longtime KOAT Chief Meteorologist Joe Diaz has announced he will retire.
He spent 46 years in the business and 3 decades plus at KOAT. He became the station’s Chief Met in 1997.
"After more than four decades of reporting and forecasting weather, including 38 wonderful years at KOAT, I’ll be retiring after this coming May sweeps," said Diaz when making the announcement on Wednesday. "I’m incredibly grateful to our loyal viewers, for the trust and support they’ve shown me through the decades. I’ve covered this state and its people with unique storytelling and making families safer with critical weather forecasting. I also owe deep gratitude to KOAT and Hearst Television for allowing me to serve this community I cherish so dearly."
He won’t leave just yet, or not even in two weeks. As you obviously guessed, he’ll be signing off at the end of the May book.
