The Next to Take the Chair

It used to be that the Anchor job of CBS Evening News only opened up after decades. Now, it seems to be mere months before another change is made.

The new anchor of "CBS Evening News" is set to be "CBS Mornings" co-host Tony Dokoupil, a choice that many considered an open secret within the past few weeks.

Dokoupil was selected by CBS News' recently installed editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and president and executive editor Tom Cibrowski. Dokoupil is slated to take over the flagship evening program early next year.

The news of Dokoupil's appointment confirms earlier industry chatter. The New York Post had previously reported that he was a "frontrunner for the job and a favorite" of both Weiss and Cibrowski.

While the CBS News leadership reportedly considered recruiting "major names" from rival networks, they couldn’t land a big name.

Dokoupil appered to be the defualt choice.
