While many Tv stations are making cuts and laying off people, there is one station that continues to expand.

WRAL (Raleigh), owned by Capitol Broadcasting Company, announced three key appointments to bolster its investigative, accountability, and state government coverage, effective January 2026. The move signals a strategic investment in enterprise journalism for broadcast and digital platforms.

The following journalists will join WRAL News in January:

  • Megan Cloherty: Joins as Senior Reporter/Anchor (Starting January 5). Cloherty brings 24 years of experience, including major market anchoring and investigative reporting in Washington, D.C., and Colorado. She is recognized for her versatility, including work in long-form audio/podcast production.

  • Caroline Yaffa: Named State Government Reporter (Starting January 5). Yaffa will cover policy and accountability from the state capital. Her background includes live broadcast work and multiplatform content delivery, including coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

  • Alex Littlehales: Joins the 5 On Your Side consumer and WRAL Investigates teams as an Enterprise Reporter(Starting January 20). Littlehales is an award-winning reporter, recognized by the NABJ and Emmy-nominated, focusing on advocacy and systems-level accountability reporting.
