Bumped Up in Bean Town
/A notable shift in local television news anchoring is drawing attention as WHDH-TV (7News) in Boston, Massachusetts, prepares for a significant change to its evening lineup. Jadiann Thompson, an Emmy-winning journalist, is being promoted to the late-night anchor desk, stepping into the role previously held by Kim Khazei following Khazei's announced departure.
This move follows an internal announcement by the New England news station. For the past nine years, Thompson has been a prominent figure, anchoring multiple weekday newscasts, including the station's 4 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 9 p.m. slots. She often co-anchored these broadcasts with Ryan Schulteis.
Thompson's tenure includes helping to launch the station's successful 9 p.m. news in 2017, a broadcast that quickly rose to become one of the highest-rated newscasts in the Boston market, according to Linda Miele, the vice president of news for WHDH-TV and WLVI.
Jimmy Rogers, vice president and general manager for WHDH-TV/WLVI-TV, commented on the promotion, stating, "Jadiann is a dedicated and experienced journalist. She and Adam will make an excellent team."
Thompson will be taking over Khazei's weeknight timeslots, which include the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. newscasts
