Moving to Mornings in KC
/KCTV5, the CBS affiliate in Kansas City, has announced a key shift in its weather team leadership, promoting First Warn 5 Chief Meteorologist Luke Dorris to the lead meteorologist role for the station's morning show, KCTV5 News This Morning. The change is effective Monday, December 1.
The move places the station's chief meteorologist on its morning broadcast, a distinction KCTV5 is emphasizing as a commitment to comprehensive early-day weather coverage for the Kansas City metropolitan area.
“This is the time of day when viewers make so many of their daily decisions, and being there first to help them start the day informed and prepared is a responsibility I’m truly looking forward to,” Dorris said of his new role.
The station described Dorris's transition from his nightside position as part of a "strategic shift" to expand and deepen its weather coverage.
Expanded Team: KCTV5 is also adding a sixth full-time on-air meteorologist, which the station states will make its First Warn 5 Weather team the largest in the Kansas City market.
New Evening Lineup: Filling Dorris’s previous time slots, Meteorologist Melissa Meeder will take over the evening newscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. Meteorologist Mike Nicco will move to the 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. newscasts.
"Our continued investment in our weather team is proof of our commitment to making KCTV5 the go-to station for daily forecasts and severe weather coverage in Kansas City," said Josh Morgan, news director at KCTV5.
