Seeing Through the BS at Tegna
/On Friday, FTVLive told you that Tegna has named yet another Regional VP the company.
I’m not sure how many that makes for Tegna, but I’m guessing it is way more than any other media company in the industry.
One Journalist, who read the Tegna press release on their latest hire, had this to say to FTVLive in an email.
Like many I imagine, I often find the press releases announcing new vice presidents in corporate television news entirely laughable, and perhaps even embarrassing.
If you have an ESSENTIAL job in television news, it can be summed up in one brief sentence.
“I produce the noon news.”
“I do the weather at 6 and 11pm.”
“I run the newsroom.”
If your job duties cannot be summed up in one brief sentence, and includes words like “coordinate”, “oversee” or “strategize”, it’s most likely a BS job.
While I understand it is important to have high-level management in the big corporations to keep everybody in the chain on the same page, true broadcasters see through much of the corporate speak, and generally realize when The Emperor has no clothes.
